Just need to vent here a little. Seems every time I have money saved for a new mod something breaks. Just the other day I had just enough money saved to get rock sliders and a winch bumper. But of course right on cue my ECU took a dump. And just like that and $900 later Im back to square one. I think my Jeep is cursed or just dosent want to be upgraded. I just dont know.

it gets no better when you do get it modified. Jeep is called Jeep for a reason. hang in there and good luck.

While pretty much most of us have been in similar situations at one point or another, I have to point out that you should use the boards more as paying $900 for an ECU is on the high side. There are other places where you can shop for an ECU than the dealership and pay a LOT less (for example I paid for a 97 ECU just over $100)

Your right but Im new in town and I have no Jeep alies yet to help so I was forced to the stealership. $640 for the ECU(new Mopar) And the rest in labor.(trouble shoot install and re-program).Im sure Ill be back on the Jeep wagon soon.

kid, you're describing my life! We just dropped $400 on a washing machine, fcs. At least your money went into the heep. Mine can't even get close :laugh3:

keep on jeepin'

LOL! You must be young. There are things in this world that suck money much faster than a Jeep ever hoped to. But it does always seem to be the Jeep fund that gets hit.

thats IT ??? DUDE...

I just need to vent here a little....Seems like everytime I get some cash for a MOD ( after a mortgage, wife, 3 kids, and a temporary shelter for my mother in law) that _hit goes upside down.

Kid gets sick, daughter needs new shoes, wife runs up the Credit Cards, boss ends up being a typical ass, and I feel like walking.

Just the other day I had a d44 from work for sale so I could fund more parts for my lift since I have NO BUDGET to work with after the above suck my wallet dry, and the deal falls through. There goes the re-gearing for however long.

Love my kids, trying hard to love the wife, everytime I turn around I get my ass kicked and my jeep doesn't even get the basic maintenance done that it needs.

All I can say is an ECU for $900.00 ? You got raped my friend.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Jeeps. Had I had mine before I got married...NONE of the above would be occuring right now, and I'd have one bad ass bitchin ride. Right now...damn near stock with 3 inch lift.

The IRONY, EH ?

"Never give up and never surrender"( Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest) . Seriously, when you AND the Jeep get used to each other, you will get to the point (may be a while, though) of being able to trust it and be able to afford to work on any projects that you have in mind for it. Just remember that sometimes it will be awhile between project start and project finished. All of here, no doubt, have had times when we either feel or have felt like junking the Jeep, but finally got over it. Remember Jeep= Just Each & Every Paycheck LOL. I have got several that are in different states of needing attention, and making about $1200 a month gets tight when time to fix things and run a household. Just hang in there, it will work out. That is one of the great things about NAXJA, just about everybody is willing to help with advice, and sometimes, parts.

Guess we are all in the same boat, I don´t even try to mod mine anymore, takes all I have, just to keep my near stock, safe and running.
I've put like $1800 in parts and probably a 1000 hours in my 88, in the last two years. Most of that thousand hours on my back under that sucker, hard on an oldster with arthritis. I seem to be making some headway, but in the meantime the wifes 96 is running crappier and crappier. Her cat sounds like someone is shaking a tin can full of rocks.
One of the smarter things I´ve done, is to buy a couple of XJ´s wrecked ( a few hundred bucks). And stripped them clean for usuable parts. The time and effort has paid for itself many times over. Makes troubleshooting and repairs, a whole lot easier, to have a stock of spairs.

Damn right. Growing up, my Dad would buy all kinds of Mopar junkers: nothing over $250. We built shelves in the shed to hold all the altenators, starters, compressors, and crap. The first time he ever went to a shop was the day he realized he couldn't drive on a radial to break it off the bead like he could the old bias ply. The more junk you can collect, the happier you'll be in the long run (providing you've the storage space and an understanding wife :gag: ).

I feel your pain, i had enough saved up for my parts for my homegrown lift and sye, tires...then it hit. Clutch, axle seals, ignition, brakes, you name it, it was repaired or replaced. And now it doesnt pass smog! bye bye $1200
