Salvage/Rebuilt vehicle question

I remember hearing from somewhere that if a vehicle has a “salvage” or “rebuilt” title, that the value drops by 50% or more. Does anyone know if this is true?
Is there a general rule-of-thumb to follow?

I've never heard a percentage attached to it, but it makes sense that a salvage or rebuilt title would drop the value some. It's not so much that the vehicle is really worth less, but many people won't buy a vehicle with a salvage title, so in general the price has to be lower than the price of a comparable vehicle with a "clean" title in order to sell it.

And, of course, even if the price looks right you need to look carefully at what was repaired, and how well it was repaired.
