Ron Paul wins presidential straw poll at conservative conference

We need to "None of the above" all of them.

Obama '08, Militia '09, Freedom '10.

I DID vote for him.

Sadly, Paul/Barr didn't even come close...

:dunno: I'll vote for him again if he's in the running at all.

I voted for him. Pretty sure I had to write him in. Don't remember.

Yeah, he was write in only. Was running as Republican, should have run as Libertarian, Bob Barr (Libertarian by words, social conservative by voting record :puke:) won the Libertarian primaries. I could not in good conscience vote for Barr (I'm a Libertarian because I agree with most of the policies, not because I want to vote partyline in a marginalized third party) so I did write-in for Paul and put Barr as VP simply because I couldn't think of anyone else really. Would have voted for Barr but I would have felt doubly hypocritical if I had, so I voted for Paul.

"Former Vice President Dick Cheney could have been reading some of their minds when he made a surprise appearance at the conservatives' conference and said, "I think Barack Obama is a one-term president."

Really? I am a life long democrat and I know this, please please Dick tell us something new. At least Dick Cheney is smart enough to know this...

"But Cheney made clear he won't be the one to try to upend Obama, even though he was greeted with chants of "Run, Dick, Run." Said Cheney: "I am not going to do it."

and why is this guy even important... after his contract ON America and his loss of the House to the Democrats (correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he indicted for something?)

"Barack Obama has created at least three jobs that I know of: Bob McDonnell, Chris Christie and Scott Brown," former House speaker Newt Gingrich told a fawning crowd Saturday, celebrating recent GOP victories in governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey, and the Senate in Massachusetts, respectively."

Now President Obama is no messiah, and the hopey changey thing that Sarah refers to will only work if he is given a chance, but we'll never know if it will work or fail. This partisan crap has to end for the good of the country.

This partisan crap has to end for the good of the country.

Why?

Shall we all sit around the campfire holding hands and singing a syrupy "Lets All Just Get Along" song?

Bull.

If I wanted Progressive Liberal Socialist policies I would have voted for Progressive Liberal Socialist candidates.

I want the people I voted for fighting tooth and nail against Progressive Liberal Socialist programs and their entire agenda.

And if they don't, then their a**es are going to get thrown out on the street too.

So if your sitting in your XJ high centered in a mudhole with the wheels spinning and a yuppie in his H2 comes along and offers a strap you gonna turn him down?

Impossible. H2s get stuck turning off of the pavement. :D

Wow, there's just all KINDS of stupid in that sentence.

(1) The Contract WITH America was Newt Gingrich, not Cheney. It was 1994, when Cheney held no public office at all.

(2) He didn't lose anything to the Democrats. (A) Cheney won his reelection in '04, handily, and (B) Getting House Republicans reelected was not his job.

And (3) No, he wasn't indicted for "something." Nice vague, baseless charge there...

Thanks for playing.

Robert

I have been taught you need to say things three times before someone comprehends.

Ahhh Robert. That whole sentence you quoted was in reference to Newt Gringrich hence I highlighted in bold his name in the next paragraph cut-n-pasted from the article. (<-1) All three items you pointed out that I wrote are about Newt Gringrich if you knew history you good easily reason that out and put two and two together. (<-2) Dick Cheney is resting comfortably in a hospital tonight but even he knows Newt Gingrich is one of a handful of House Speakers that have left in disgrace. (<-3. It's weak but I'm tired).

Thanks for playing it is good to see no student left behind is still working. :wave1:

Okay, I suppose I can accept that you were commenting on a quote before posting the quote you were commenting on. Odd, to be sure, but fine.

You still missed two out of three.

Newt did author the Contract, considered a political masterstroke at the time. I'd like to see the concept return today.

But no. He didn't lose the House: the GOP maintained control of the House until 2006. He didn't even lose his individual seat: he won handily in 1998, before resigning.

And again, no. No indictment for "something."

Wrenchmonkey,

I am posting to apologize. I called it a night but felt guilty that I was a little harsh in my last post so hobbled back to the PC to apologize. I hope you accept, shouldn't have been such a jerk.

Not from the most reliable source:
"Shortly after the 1998 elections, when Republicans lost five seats in the House, Gingrich announced his resignation from his House seat and as Speaker." <- Wikipedia

but here is a cut from Fox news: (oh the irony of me quoting FOX)
"Gingrich's congressional career ended in 1998 when he abruptly resigned from Congress after poor showings from Republicans in elections and after being reprimanded by the House ethics panel over charges that he used tax-exempt funding to advance his political goals."
Fox Article so an indictment, but no trial just a letter of reprimand.
