Renix TV Cable Concern

I have watched all available videos on adjusting the TV cable, and fully understand the procedure. I have performed this on multiple occasions. The result is always the same. Nothing changes. The mechanism, after depressing the throttle pedal to the floor, does not move outward. Ever. Now, to be fair, the transmission seems to be behaving correctly. Any thoughts on this? Would you suggest replacing the TV cable?

Make sure there's no floor mats or other bunched up carpet behind the pedal. You can also just grab the throttle arm and twist until it stops. It's "not recommended" but I can see how much it pops back out. You're sure you're pushing the "sleeve" all the way back while depressing the button? Does it remain in place once you release the button (before you depress the pedal)? Perhaps the cable is stretched but the length is good.

Does it downshift when you jump on the pedal?

Yes, no carpeted or rubber floor mat in place. Have tried at gas pedal as well as under the hood. The plunger just does not move even a millimeter. Yes, the transmission will kick down when I stomp on the gas. I am guessing that my cable and assembly is just worn out after 207K miles?

I just checked my '88 (210K) It pops out only 1 click. Sounds like both of us are approaching a cable change. :(

However, mine also shifts well so I'm not messing with it.

Well, the part number is 83503741. Can't find one online.

Substitute: OMIX 17716.09 Accelerator Cable (OOS also) :(

Seems somewhat easy to replace except you have to drop the trans pan.

Not sure if a '91+ will fit. These seem to be plentiful.
Interesting. Thank you for the p/n research. I am going to purposely drive and test my kick-down functionality. It seems, from the limited focus that I have given it, that the kickdown only works when I stomp on the pedal. Is yours less effort.

Well, not necessarily stomp to the floor. It does control trans line pressure which enable better/smoother shifts based on the throttle position. When you accelerate, you put more load on the drivetrain. Due to the linkage from the TB to the trans, the TV increases the trans fluid pressure to handle the load. Likewise, if your holding steady on level road or coasting, you don't need a lot of pressure.

On my '88, 45-ish mph seems to be the spot where it goes into OD if I hold a steady speed. Doesn't take much extra pedal at that speed to feel it drop out of OD. If I'm driving 55, I need a bit more pedal to get it to downshift. If I'm driving 25 (not in OD), it takes a good stomp to get mine to downshift. Makes sense to me since the 4.0 has gobs of low end torque.

I put the 91+ cable (Omix-Ada 17716.16) on my 88 and it acts the same way (doesn't ever pull any of the sleeve out). Shifting seems decent, so I'm not complaining. I don't remember if I had to replace a TB bracket for mounting or not, but I think I must have.

I did try it with the sleeve manually pulled out and that was definitely worse.

Edit: Checked my TB, looks like the original bracket. I guess maybe the new model just swaps cleanly.
