Recruiting Pit Crew!

Yep that's right we have openings currently on the Pack 429 Pinewood Derby Pit Crew! Saturday January 30th we will be hosting a Pinewood Derby work day at the UNA Recreation Center. In our pack we have a large number of single mom's and parents who are not very handy with tools. Here is a chance for you to give a little time to a great group of kids, help them build their speed machine, and more importantly show the boys a great example of community.

Yeh, I've been waiting on this...but I haven't heard any talk about it yet down here....Don't they have regional and national championships? Or is it all local?? Excuse my ignance...I'm new to the scouting thing, and learning!

I know the have the one at your pack, then the district race, and then your council race. Past that I'm not sure. Pack of course is your group, the district is the surrounding area that your pack is a part of, and the council is part or all of your state (for us it's all of middle TN).

So was it obvious which cars were really built by dad? When I was a kid, it looked like about half of them. I did my car completely on my own so I was a little surprised to see there were kids with insanely nice cars that you *knew* were not built by the kid. Maybe they got to sand it. LOL!
To cut down on that, some packs have two sets of competitions- the cub scout built cars and the dads/moms built cars.

Of course pinewood derbys are rampant with cheating when it comes to the axles/wheels.

Somewhere in the world, some dad had his son's car cryo'd I'm sure. LOL!
