Quick harmonic balancer question

There were qty=2 types that could be in your '89 - the difference was the height of the sleeve - some where shorter and required a slinger "inside" the front cover seal to make-up the depth -- there's a TSB and all of that on replacing one type with the other... -- Apparently the "short" one was some sort of a goof-up in the replacement parts world, so it's quite unlikely that you'd have one unless the pulley on your '89 had been replaced before like 1992 or from old stock..

Parts books dshow the same part number for both years, so if you compare the depth (just in case) you should be able to use one for the other as a direct swap (verified in Doorman and Pioneer books - never trust just one!)

I don't remember the year they changed the design, but I think it was '97 or so. The factory discontinued the old style and supercedes that part number to the new style. Even the parts guy at my dealership wasn't aware they are different until it came up in a discussion one Saturday morning. He looked, saw an asterisk on the listing, and followed that to a tech note telling them to pull the front cover and remove the oil slinger when replacing an old style with a new style.

As Satan said, compare the heights. If they are the same, you're good to go.

If they are different, Crown still supplies the old style, for a lot less $$$ than dealer prices.
