Hi, everyone
I have 94 zj with a 4.0L 6cyl engine
I was at the junk yard today and I was looking at the 4.0L in a 97 zj and it was the best looking 1 on the lot. All the 94 zj's was mostly v8's or really badly worn 4.0L engines, so I decided to take the head off the 97 zj
when i got it home I called up a few machine shops and 1 of them told me that just because i pulled a 4.0 head doesnt mean its gonna fit my 94 zj 4.0...
so my question is.. will the 2 go together? and the machine shop qouted around 195 for machining and servicing the valves is that about right?
Im in NC now so i dont know what any good shops are!!

Looking at the part numbers for the cylinder head in autozone
94 zj CYL H. part # is 2A30 and for a 97 zj CYL H. part # is 2A32
I called and ask about the 2 parts and they said they are the same!
I want to be sure before I get it serviced. Thanks

one thing to mention, the new head *may* not have a little hole for the temp sending unit in the d/side back corner of the head. check it against your old head. i can't remember if the '94 in a zj had the sending unit hole in the back of the head or not. that would be the only real difference. it's not a huge deal to drill the flat spot and tap it to 1/8 pipe thread if you need that hole there.

Look at the casting number on the driver's side the valve cover area. The earlier one will be 7120, and what is on your 94. The 97 should be a 0630 casting. The main difference that will stop 100% bolt up is the coolant hole on the back of the head for the dash temp gauge. The 97 may not have this, but i have heard reports that some 0630s do. You can drill and tapp a hole there for the temp sender or relocate it else where. IIRC its 1/8" NPT.
