Im thinking about putting a cam in the jeep. Im looking for something mild, not a lumpy idle and no vacuum, but something with a little more pep off idle. I have a 96 w/99 intake, free flowing exhaust and intake. Any suggestions for cams? Also it could probably benefit from new valvesprings, so suggestions on those would be appreciated. Would I see a difference in fuel economy?

Lunati is good stuff!!

Schneider cams are good too.

I've heard some guys fit LS1 valvesprings in the 4.0s, dunno if any mods are needed. I guess they're a beehive shape factory and it prevents valve float.

Did you consider higher ratio rockers on the stock cam?

I have the comp cam 68-232-4.. Great low end pick up and torque.. Mines a 96 H.O.

You may want to give Benie at Hesco a call... He helped me with some head issues and saved me some money.

Good Luck

Any more info on this?

I have a few stock LS1 springs laying around if I can find them....

1.7:1 will give you the same effects as running a hotter cam to a degree. So for a little pick me up you can do that. I believe their may be a downside as well but I do not remember off hand.

Anyone Dyno'd with their old and new cam's?

My 4.6 stroker is currently making 200rwhp/254rwtq with the stock cam. It made 208rwhp/265rwtq with the Crane 753905 so not a huge difference. I have a 2001 XJ intake manifold waiting to go in and I'm hoping to get close to the power level that I had before with the Crane cam.

Dr D.

Been looking into cams recently, but I am not seeing a whole lot of difference between the stock cam in my 1991 based 4.7 stroker, and many of the ones out there. The lift is a little more, but most of the durations are about the same or a little less. I had a sheet that compared them all but I lost it.

I am almost to the point where I think It may not be worth the swap unless I go to big valves on the head. I already ported and polished the head, I guess it could use some combustion chamber work as well.

hey, yous guys!!!!!!!!!! Running the 1.6:1 yella terra roller rockers with a Clifford cam, its not too bad, gas mileage hasn't changed much, but the kick in the pants kicks in when you get above 2K plus rpms. But I'm still in the break in period on this motor. Its, uhm tweaked to say the least.

But this is on a balanced 4.7L stroker, with the chevy valves, 63mm throttle body, '99 intake, and the clifford springs!
