Project Resurrection aka saving the heep

I guess I should make my own little thread on what I'm doing to my junk instead of cluttering up the important thread. :)

Not going to be anything more then just a place I can ask Q's from you MWC'ers and to post some picks.

I posted this already. Sounds like all my squirrels are trying to get out all at once.

Some suggested maybe the flex plate cracked. Didn't see any cracks when removing the tc bolts. Will see when the motor is out.

I do believe that my problem is going to be cyl 5...

Cylinder 1 isn't looking too swell either.

Some update. Got to spend some time working on this. Long story short, there are no short cuts to removing the 2 torque bolts at the back of the motor without lowering the Xmember. Spent a crap-ton of time finding that out. So on to the next step.

Took the front tires off to lower it just enough for the crane to roll under.

I pulled all 5 bolts on each side out and I couldn't budge the thing. What the hell was holding it in??

So after a beer and lunch I cleaned off a bunch of mud and found this

Jeff sure built it beefy.

So I get it to drop down and right off the bat the wheel base decides to stretch about 6" :scared:

I don't have a pic of it right now but I used a come-a-long hooked to the TC skid and the rear diff to keep it from getting any 'longer'.

Using about 4' of extentions I took out the 2 bolts. Cranked down on the come-a-long and got the xmember back in place.

Out comes the motor

As you can see all around my 'shop' my black walnut tree decided that it was time to dump all the leaves. Fun times finding bolts and tools.

You can see I'm beside myself with glee. The darn thing is finally out.

Got to pick up a good runner to put in there now.

So while the dead squirrels are removed and I'm looking for another 6 I'll go thru the engine compartment and fix any bad wires. I had a few issues with burned wires and such due to the incredible heat coming off the Borla hedder. I also thought that now was a good time to address that issue too.

First step was to wire brush the mud off the tubes then spray them with some ceramic hi temp paint
IMG_3760.jpg

Step 2 was to wrap the tubes and the collectors up with Thermo Tec's hedder wrap.

Per add, it should drop the engine compartment heat down by 75%. I'll settle for not having wires that are 1" away from the tube burn up.

Looks like what I'm not looking forward to doing, I smoked the head gasket between cyls 3/4 on my 98. Still runs but it really hates life.

I always pull the header panel just to make maneuvering the motor in and out a bit easier - I figure it's only a few more bolts and makes it so I can come straight out with the motor instead of trying to get it up and over.

If I were pulling it w/the tranny attached I would've. With it pulled w/o the tranny it came forward about 5 inches or so and then up. I even had my AC rad still attached and charged.

I've been enjoying your banter and thread. Though I could have dealt without seeing your ugly mug.

Keep up the good work and posts!

There's a small 1 car garage that I usually work in but at the time I blew the motor it was early summer and it seemed like a good idea to do it out side.

That's what I get for procrastinating to late fall! :repair:
