i need to know what a fair price is....i obviously want to make money on it...
but here is the stats...
95..4.0HO auto
260k
new rear shocks (rancho es3000)
new alternator
newer starter (needs shims..catches every now and then in park)
"new t-case"?(see second question)
3" lift on 33x12.50 bft m/t's
basic...no power anything.....
4x4 works but t-case is very unhappy about it....

second question deals with the t-case.....i bought a reman'd t-case yesterday...
i saw np 231 J and 272 ratio....and hopped all over it...
everything was cool until i realized the output shaft was too big for my driveshaft....can i just get a new yoke for the driveshaft?.....
is ther another way around this....?!...thanks guys

In this economy, having 260+K miles on it, questionable 4wd and no frills, no stereo, bad windshield, but with a lift and decent tires......

I'm gonna say $800 -$1200 tops. And that's only because I couldn't really see the interior condition.

$1200 was assuming you got that working well - since you mentioned that you'd look into doing that.

The high mileage is gonna be the killer, and it's overall appearance is only going to appeal to a limited few. Are the front turn/marker lights actually painted or just sprayed with that tinting stuff? I'd get those replaced with non-painted/tinted ones so that folks don't feel like the cops are gonna hassle 'em. And a front bumper would help.

Sounds like you picked up a TJ or a 96+ XJ NP231. You can swap the output shaft and tailcone from your existing, or you could put a 96+ XJ shaft on.

Ditto what Yella said about the marker lights and bumper - might also help to remove hand grenade stickers, etc...

I wouldn't sell it. Deals come round time and again. Having a reliable plan "B" in place when plan "A" won't start really appeals to me.
Just my 02.

i have to say the miles are a killer ive been looking at picking up an xj for the wife and we are seeing xj's with 140 to 150k listed and i stress the word listed at 1500 to 1800. so with twice the miles and the other items listed id say you would be looking at 1k with the new tcase and lights, if the engine and trans were rebuilt then you may get more but who knows.

well i would need a liberty driveshaft and hope it were long enough..
and the speedo connector is different and the linkage is reversed....
so when in 2h the lever would indicat 4L and visa versa.....

cant get ahold of buyer...he just kinda showed up at shop with a jeep...told him bout what i needed he came back and i bought....stupid stupid me.....

Something don't sound right. a 231 J is a 231 J regardless of whet it came out of. Yes there are some slight differences, but basically they are the same.
I saw your ad on Craigslist (http://cosprings.craigslist.org/pts/964472108.html) and it doesn't look unusual to me. stambdard latemodel rear output is visible. An RE H&T SYE and a front shaft from an AW4 equipped 91+ and the rear is taken care of. If you're going to mate it to the tranny you bought from me (97 AW4) it should bolt right up. Have you tried to put them together on the ground to see if everything lines up? As far as the linkage is concerned....I think you're mistaken. Speed-o connection issue can be resolved by grabbing a 96+ tailcone from a junkyard and the speedo-gear housing too.

A little work and all of these can be confirmed.

Give it a shot...what do you have to loose?
