Pics of past cars

All this VW talk has made me a bit nostalgic about cars I've owned in the past. I figured I'd start a thread for people to post up some of their past rides.

My 84 Rabbit GTI that I modified like crazy for SCCA Solo II just to find out that I didn't pay attention to the exact rules for each class. It was a fun car though. Audi intake, Neuspeed throttle body, Volvo CIS manifold and airbox, Audi warm up regulator, FN code trans (better gearing and limited slip), short shifter, FK Konigsport coilovers, Scirocco 16V brakes, just about every bolt on chassis stiffener out there (front and rear strut bars, lower control arm brace, engine crossmember brace, etc), 4to2to1 exhaust manifold (factory optioned exhaust from I forget what thats damn near as good as any header), hollowed CAT (still passed E-test), and 2.5" cat-back exhaust. End result, a car that was over suspensioned for the class I wanted, not enough power for the class it would've been placed in, but it sure was 1 fun little car. I took it on a round trip from Denver to Omaha to Springfield, MO and back and averaged 40mpg doing it.

1978 Rabbit-C that I bought for 500$ running and sold for 100$ not running only to buy it back for 50$ just so I could eventually donate it to a guy I know with his own personal VW junkyard. My original plans were to make it into a Polizie replica as it was an original German round headlight model and the Polizie had actually used them as inner city traffic/parking cars. It never panned out though and there was just too much rust.

"DutchRocco" was a 1986 VW Scirocco 16V and my second major attempt into SCCA SoloII. As it came stock with the bigger brakes and more power I modified my 84 GTI to have I was able to keep it in the Stock Mod Class. I also refrained from coilovers and instead went with Neuspeed Springs and Koni adjustables to once more maintain class requirements. Aftermarket cat-back exhaust, stripped interior and a roll cage were allowed as were all the major chassis stiffeners. Eventually I sold it to make way for another VW.

And what the cage was really for, protecting the kegs :D

The 1987 Scirocco 16V that replaced the 86 Scirocco 16V. I got this one because it was over all a near mint car and I didn't want just a stripped out hooptie that was only god for pretend racing. Ultimately this is one of the cars I most regret having sold off.

Of course I have to throw in the 92 XJ

My 1990 Golf with the 85 Westmoreland front end conversion. 1985 was the last year for an American made VW and 1 of only 2yrs for the MKII chassis. I scoured many a swap meet to find the front end for this thing. I bought and sold this car off at least 4 times and there is a chance I might be getting it back again here in the next year or so. Although if I do it'll probably be scrapped of all parts I still want and the remaining shell donated to the same guy with the personal junkyard. Its a German built chassis and therefore rusty as hell underneath.

And the ultra slammed mode (why I love coilovers and 13" steelies)

My 1986 Samurai that I damn near destroyed on Spring Creek:

And then replaced with an 87 that I tried to drown on Eagle Rock

My 93 Audi UrS4 Quattro, the other car I most regret selling

My 96 Golf. It was nifty but in the end was the downfall of ultra lowered and stiff riding cars for me. I'll never own a MKIII chassis car again.

My first VW that I actually owned (my step dad's 72 Super Beetle doesn't count) 2001 GTI VR6, this car spawned an addiction with German cars and a 4 page driving record. It ruined my credit (repo), put me in jail on several occaisions, and over all was just plain awesome. I broke more traffic laws with this car than any vehicle prior or since. 100mph on Speer Blvd (no ticket), 145mph on I-25 through Denver (20 point ticket), 90mph average through Wolf Creek Pass, multiple runs from the Gate 20/Fountain exit to the 120th Exit in Northglenn in 45min flat, trips to Omaha from Northglenn in 5hrs while pumped up on energy drinks and No-Doz, burn-outs, donuts, blown transmissions, exploded power steering pumps. Holy cow do I miss this car. I think I stole this thing back from the cops at least 3 times after being forced to leave it on the side of the road so they could tow it off.

I wish I had pics of my S-10's but that was before the digital picture era, same with the Super Beetle and of course I didn't post up all fo the Jeeps and Tow rigs and some others. I've owned way too many cars to keep track of but I'm finally slowing down a bit. The 2000 Audi S4 is officially the longest owned vehicle I've ever had. Just over 50,000 miles added to it since I bought it 3yrs ago. I actually bought it 2wks after my son was born.

Still going strong too, its now at the 202,000 mile mark. Admittedly if the wife hadn't of claimed it i probably would've sold it by now, but its getting to the point now that even when we finally do get her a new vehicle I'll probably have to keep it. Too many miles to get the right money out of it, plus its still one of the cars I dream of. Although in my dreams its got a full RS4 body kit and turbo conversion, but hey once the wife gets her Toureg (or however you spell it) there won't be any reason not to do that stuff to it.

Found a pic of the "Caddy" I owned. I cant even remember what year this thing was, I wasn to say it was an 83 though. VW Rabbit pickup. That thing was the best parts hauler ever, 30mpg+ and no problems hauling axles, t-cases, tires, suspension parts, etc for when I was building up the 92 XJ. It even hauled my beer pong table around nicely. :D

:scared: 145?! Gotta be a story there. How'd they catch you?

Touareg? V10 TDI? I needs me one of them.

Actually the cop was in front of me and when he hit his lights I pulled myself over, the funny part was he had pulled out and started accelerating in an attempt to persue but I slowed down fast enough that I wound up stopping barely past where he had been parked. He had to back up along the side of the interstate to get to me.

I'd get the V6 TDI Touareg if/when we get one. The V10 TDI would be awesome but tey're way too expensive and will be too old for my tastes. This go around we're getting something that has a warranty on it, also the V6 TDI get amazing fuel economy (especially for a full size SUV) so thats a bonus too. It'll either be that or an Audi A3 TDI, my wife has always loved the A3's ever since they came out and once I found out you can get a diesel version here in the states I kind of got hooked on the idea of one. Plus, they're cheaper than a Touareg.

unfortunately, all but my last 3 vehicles were "pre-digital" age... pictures will be hard to come by.

Well jeeze, Chris, I guess you could hire a professional artist to sketch each of your old cars by your memory, ala a police sketch artist, or you could take a digital picture of your old photos, and then post them. Gee....it's too bad there's not some sort of machine that would allow you to SCAN an old photo, and digitize it. Maybe put together a photo album, and carry it around, just in case you run into one of us, then we could vouch for you and your pimped out rides.

BWAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAAH! Matt, bringing the phunnay for 40 years! ;)

Its highly unlikely that my slacker ass took many pictures -- I'll post up what I've got at some point, but it will likely be (1) recently acquired Stomper; (2) current WJ; (3) 99 XJ; (4) 91 XJ; and (5) 89 Isuzu 4x4 PU -- not pictured will be my decked 88 Isuzu, my 71 Datsun 240Z, my POS 68 Camaro, or my beloved (one of my few regrets in life) 65 Fastback 2+2 Mustang.

youngster.

My first car was a 400.00 mercedes 120 phaeton (a 4 door convertible got while i was in germany, i didn't get permission from the company commander so i had to sell it so being a guard house lawyer i signed it over to my german girlfriend , who promptly dumped me , i hope the cross-eyed bitch rots in hell lol

:roflmao:

mine had weber trips as well, and a 5 speed tranny that was installed by Nissan, in Japan, at the factory (in 1977 for the then Japanese stationed Air Force owner...). I miss that car sometimes - I do know where it is...

Jim, you just made my morning with your comment. Thats some good shite right there.

Chris and Ellison......... You know how I know you're gay? Because you had Datsuns. Altough admittedly the 240Z's are pretty damn cool.
