All this VW talk has made me a bit nostalgic about cars I've owned in the past. I figured I'd start a thread for people to post up some of their past rides.
My 84 Rabbit GTI that I modified like crazy for SCCA Solo II just to find out that I didn't pay attention to the exact rules for each class. It was a fun car though. Audi intake, Neuspeed throttle body, Volvo CIS manifold and airbox, Audi warm up regulator, FN code trans (better gearing and limited slip), short shifter, FK Konigsport coilovers, Scirocco 16V brakes, just about every bolt on chassis stiffener out there (front and rear strut bars, lower control arm brace, engine crossmember brace, etc), 4to2to1 exhaust manifold (factory optioned exhaust from I forget what thats damn near as good as any header), hollowed CAT (still passed E-test), and 2.5" cat-back exhaust. End result, a car that was over suspensioned for the class I wanted, not enough power for the class it would've been placed in, but it sure was 1 fun little car. I took it on a round trip from Denver to Omaha to Springfield, MO and back and averaged 40mpg doing it.
1978 Rabbit-C that I bought for 500$ running and sold for 100$ not running only to buy it back for 50$ just so I could eventually donate it to a guy I know with his own personal VW junkyard. My original plans were to make it into a Polizie replica as it was an original German round headlight model and the Polizie had actually used them as inner city traffic/parking cars. It never panned out though and there was just too much rust.
"DutchRocco" was a 1986 VW Scirocco 16V and my second major attempt into SCCA SoloII. As it came stock with the bigger brakes and more power I modified my 84 GTI to have I was able to keep it in the Stock Mod Class. I also refrained from coilovers and instead went with Neuspeed Springs and Koni adjustables to once more maintain class requirements. Aftermarket cat-back exhaust, stripped interior and a roll cage were allowed as were all the major chassis stiffeners. Eventually I sold it to make way for another VW.
And what the cage was really for, protecting the kegs
The 1987 Scirocco 16V that replaced the 86 Scirocco 16V. I got this one because it was over all a near mint car and I didn't want just a stripped out hooptie that was only god for pretend racing. Ultimately this is one of the cars I most regret having sold off.
Of course I have to throw in the 92 XJ
My 1990 Golf with the 85 Westmoreland front end conversion. 1985 was the last year for an American made VW and 1 of only 2yrs for the MKII chassis. I scoured many a swap meet to find the front end for this thing. I bought and sold this car off at least 4 times and there is a chance I might be getting it back again here in the next year or so. Although if I do it'll probably be scrapped of all parts I still want and the remaining shell donated to the same guy with the personal junkyard. Its a German built chassis and therefore rusty as hell underneath.
And the ultra slammed mode (why I love coilovers and 13" steelies)
My 1986 Samurai that I damn near destroyed on Spring Creek:
And then replaced with an 87 that I tried to drown on Eagle Rock
My 93 Audi UrS4 Quattro, the other car I most regret selling
My 96 Golf. It was nifty but in the end was the downfall of ultra lowered and stiff riding cars for me. I'll never own a MKIII chassis car again.
