Hey what's up guys?? I haven't been on lately since I got laid off from the motorcycle dealership. So no sitting in front of the computer all day reading the board lol. However getting laid off turned into a good thing since I started a new job back in April making 3X's as much money. Now I'm working on a oil rig up in PA making the big bucks, I'm working 28 days strait up there, then home for 2 weeks, then back to do it all over again. Needless to say I'll be on much more now that the paychecks are rolling in and I'm starting another build.

MY PLANS
Building a very capable long armed rig that will be my daily driver also. When I'm working I won't be driving it very much since I live right on site for that 28 days. I do however have to drive the turnpike damn near 4 hours into PA and back. I also want to make it as safe as possible since on my days off I'm sure I'll have the 1 year old twins in it here and there. I want to use this XJ for camping with the family, getting around safely in the winter snow, and finally getting my ass up to Rausch Creek.

WHAT I HAVE NOW
At the moment I already have 2 XJ's and a Exploder that I drive daily. I have the 89 renix, since I live right down the road from Wharton state forest that one is my mud XJ. That one is lifted 6" on short arms, drop brackets, 33" boggers, snorkel, welded rear, rhino lined interior and really just my mud and water Jeep for beating in the woods. The renix is actually in pretty good shape and perfect for what I use it for, but deff not something I want to be driving everyday!! Then my wife has the 97 XJ with 3" lift and 31's.... nice little DD XJ to get her and the kids around. Then I have my Ford exploder that I drive daily now but it just isn't a jeep, that is going up for sale next Wednesday when I go on my days off. The money I get from selling that will my my rims and tires lol.

THE BUILD!!
Now I planned on coming home this Wednesday and looking for a newer XJ, spending between 3000 and 4500, on something 97 or newer. That was until my buddy sent me a text about this 2001 in decent shape with 131000 miles that someone was selling for 1200 bucks...... SOLD:rtm:

What I would like to do is every time I'm going to buy a new part I'll come on here and post what the part is, give a few options of brands I'll looking at, then hopefully get some info from you guys on the better choice. Of course I wanna track the build with pics before and after and install process.

FIRST THINGS FIRST
-Right off the bat I was thinking Iron Rock Offroad long arm kit and 33 x 12.50's.... Any input from anyone on how that combo would fit my needs would be great.
-One thing the XJ deff needs is a radiator..... deff wanna go with a aftermarket system. I was looking at the CSF 3 row.... does anyone have any input on those? How they fit, how they hold up, any other mods I would have to do to fit it, any other better idea's, or brands?
-Lastly is this low pinion front axle, I plan on doing axles in this beast but not till farther down the road. Will the low pinion work with a 5.5" lift or should I just swap it right out for a high pinion axle?
-One more thing is shocks, I deff wanna get the best ride out of the Jeep as I can, but also be good for wheeling. I had my eyes on the Bilstein 5150's... any info on how they would fit my needs would be great.... or any other ideas on shocks all together??

Sorry for the long post guys but I'm real excited about this build and look forward to getting some good info from all the experience and talent we have on this board. I promise to make this a good build threat haha... Pics of the stocker coming soon

The Bilsteins are pretty soft ( Im running them on my 01), but I have had no trouble with them offroad and they ride reaaallly cushy on the road (nice!)..I like em, my two cents...
I have the aluminum radiator that they sell thru Quadratec...it definitely made a difference! However, dont waste your money on any "high flow" thermostat they try to sell you with it...mine failed within 6 months..stick with a 195 Stant...
The lift looks like a good plan, ..that said, Im partial to Clayton's stuff and I happen to know a TJ owner who's local that just won a 3-link longarm in a raffle and is looking to sell...perhaps you want to look into this route?
..I swapped out my low pinion in the 01 to an HP out of my 98, but I really dont think you should let that hold up your build,,most parts interchange and it will work with the lift you are looking at. one thing im not sure of is if the gear sets are the same.

Hey what's up Rick!?!? Thanks for the advice man, I think I'm deff going to go with the Bilsteins then. I know your a big Claytons fan Rich and to be honest I didn't even think about them. I just know that Iron Rock looked to be pretty good but also not to much hurt on the wallet. This TJ owner you speak of, is the lift that he has for sale for a XJ? This very well might be something to think about, please send me some info when you get a second

the kit is for an xj, but its only the arms and crossmember, not a complete lift..It is a great setup, i just dont know at this point what he wants for it..check out clayton's site for more info on the kit.
Rich
P.s. good to see you on here, Pete, glad everything is going well for you

Thank you very much Rich!!! I'm going to check that kit out now, in the mean time if you happen to talk to the person who has that kit ask him how much it would take him to part with it. I promise once I get this new XJ built I will deff be getting my a$$ up to Rausch Creek.... Even though I've been saying that for the past 2 years or so haha
