I asked about this a while ago: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8149
and got very little information and now I'm getting ready to do it and would like to know more solid info.

I have a friend who's dad owns a shop that works primarily on Jeeps, I can get basically anything really cheap, but the shop is a several hundred miles away, so I can't just run grab something small if I forget it.

So, what do I need?

So far:
-AW4 tranny with 23 spline output (allowing for future D300 swap)
-np231 with 23 spline input
-Tranny Control Unit found under passenger side dash
-auto shifter
-rear driveshaft will be about an inch shorter, front longer
-tranny mount will be back a little

what about:
-Will an HO AW4 work with my Renix 4.0? what if I use an HO AW4 with a Renix TCU?
-Do I need a different np231 shift linkage?
-Is the wiring for the TCU already behind my dash?
-ANYTHING ELSE??

Sorry Max, I'll email you some stuff too.

I used a 96 AW4 for my swap, installing it into an 89 XJ, so the newer tranny will work with the Renix stuff.

Wiring already in your Jeep? I've heard that some of the wiring is already installed in 88 models, no auto trans related wiring was factory installed in my 89. I bought an auto tranny equipped XJ harness and then using a Factory Service Manual, I stripped out the wires I needed from the donor harness and installed them into my XJ. All splices were soldered and heat shrinked for "better than factory" durability.
More info to hit you via email today.

Yes, the stock 231 linkage will work just fine.
