Its Tradition and a pride thing. Every M1 has a name. Just like the planes in WW2.

Also I forgot to mention the M1 runs a Turbine Diesel Engine that puts out 1500hp at 1500 rpm and goes up from their. The Tranny is a Detroit Allison Cross Drive with 6 forward gears and 2 reverse and it can go into pivit and spin on a dime.

No its so the other tanks know what Brigade and Strike force you are with. There are more than one Tank unit's over here and it help's for ID.

i was watching a documentary on the discovery channel the other day. thanks haven't been build new since the very early 90's. they just keep rebuilding them. it was actually pretty interesting to watch. they completely tear them down, sandblast them, cut,weld,grind,modify and otherwise update the desings and put them back together.

also the turbine engines can run off of all kinds of different fuel, so it's more versatile for the soldiers to be able to fuel them up wherever they are.

oh yeah.......gas mileage sucks........i think it was less than 4mpg. lol

You got it 2-4 gallons per mile:wow: . Also you are correct tanks can run on different diesel fuel but they love JP-8 (AVIATION DIESEL) :rtm:
