A trip to Maine's North Woods about 7 weeks ago restored my desire for a shower system other than the solar bags.

I'v found info on homemade heat exchangers, 12volt pumps etc.

I'm still looking for ideas which will allow more adjustability in temp/water flow. I dont like the idea of having to reach inside the cab and adjust the heater controls.

Anyone here done something similar?

From one who bathed out of a helmet for many years I feel that if you are going to go a portable shower route I'd design something using one of those $200 trailers from Home depot. Then add on a small generator, 20gallon water drum and one of those 'under the counter' instant water heaters or one from a motor home that might be 12 or 24 volts. Heck, if you are going to do it do it right... You could use a round external metal shower curtain holder and a wood pallet to stand on. Not to mention the added ability to have a trailer for hauling stuff.
There is a guy near allentown on Rt145 that sells old quarter ton army trailers, he puts them out on a lot, sells one and a month or so later another one pops up. Heck, if you really wanted a conversation piece put an outhouse on the trailer :D and use that for a shower stall.

Idealy i'd want the system to be self contained within the vehicle. I do have a Military 1/4 ton trailer but it wont be going on every camping/wheelin trip.

Shower Curtain?!...Rich, i think your getting a lil soft in your old age... :laugh2:

My ex-bro-in-law had a heat exchanger plumbed into the heater/radiator on his CJ7. All the controls were right up near the front right corner of the Jeep, and if I remember correctly it was a 12V motor that 'stirred' the water. All he had to do was stick a hose into a 5 gallon Jerry can and the other end connected to the pump...I think temperature was controlled by the amount of water bypassing the exchanger?

Somehting like this could be set up easy enough without having to buy the complete kit from the camp shower company. The peices would be cheaper if found seperately.

Okie - I like this line from the quote although it seems like a lot of excess work when you could just line the rear of someone's CJ or Wrangler:
. It seems to me that by digging a hole in the ground and lining it with plastic, it should be possible to make a small trail hot tub!
Weight wouldn't be a problem since it would be someone ELSE's Jeep :P
