I have a 1998 jeep and its a XJ and its got a few issues. I need someone that knows These things really well that can take a few hours and look it over and tell me what they think really it needs to fix it . I have a baby on the way, and i don't wanna give my XJ i like it to much. here is just a little of the problems i am having,

1. I start the jeep and drive it for just a few seconds maybe up to 20 mph, it will start to bog and sputter like its running out of gas, i let off the gas for just a second and it goes away.

2. I drive up to about 60 mph and shortly after reaching that mph it will jerk suddenly and randomly, almost like a fish on the end of a stick.

These are some of the issues i have, and its also has a check engine light. So if you have any ideas of whats wrong please let me know.

P.s. The person who helps check out the jeep i can either give you a little cash for gas or beer money, just let me know.

Check your gas line it may be trivial but when I instaled my hedder I messed up part of my line. If there is any kinks in it, at idle it will start to drop low in idle almost as if its fighting to stay alive, and it also had effects all throught the speed ranges. The fuel pump has to work harder to supply gas so it will force more through then when you let it drop to lower RPMs it will have enought gas to act fine. From my understanding the pump has a max ammount of gas it will push through the line and at WOT it usuley is at its max.

Also have you checked all of your ball joints to include the ones on your tie rod and drag link and the stearing stablizer?

So have you checked why the light is on yet? The problem could be one thing or a combination of things. Find out why the light is on then get back to us.

X2 on the fuel filter also.

Here, I'll post it on here also... Hi Mo

Change your inline fuel filter. Its above the rear axle on the driver side. $9.99 at Autozone. Takes about 15 minutes.

As for the jerking, does it feel like the front or rear is leading the jerks...? I said leading the jerks... hee hee.

Check to make sure your track bar bolts are tight. Check your control arm bolts. Check your driveshafts u-joints and the u-joints in the front axle. Also make sure the nuts (I said nuts... giggidy) on your u-bolts are tight. If all this checks out, then we can address possibilities.

If you can wait, I can look at it next week at my apt in Irving or if you are really desperate you can bring it by the shop (Expert Offroad in Plano) tomorrow and we can have a look it. We'll be checking out pretty early tomorrow especially if its as slow as I think it will be.

Refill blinker fluid!

Didn't they lose the inline filter in the 97 and above models? I'm pretty sure my 99 only has the integrated filter on the pump, now. That's more than 10 bucks and 15 minutes. :)

X2 again on fuel filter. Had mine poop out on me and it took forever before my dumbA$$ figured it out.
As for the 60mph thing. Check all the previous advice and make sure is torqued to spec. the littlest thing could be wrong and you might pass it up thinking it is not revelant.

Actually I found a filter for 10 bucks chris. They don't list it aas a filter in the auto zone computers, it is listed as a fuel strainer.

Yep, the strainer goes on the pump, no more inline on the newer ones.

Thats what I get for listening to certain sources of information, I guess. :) Still a bigger pain in the ass than the in-line to replace, I guess, but at least it don't hurt the wallet too bad.
