oil pump and oil screen mounting?

im having trouble getting the oil pump to mount to the oil pump screen. the inlet tube wont slide into the mounting hole on the oil pump.

also how do you prime the oil pump?

Try freezing the pickup and heating the hole. To prime the pump, remove dizzy and use the shaft from a cheap screw driver(8-10") and use a drill on forward/clockwise setting and spin it that way(you can remove oil cap to verify). If you have probs getting the dizzy and cam sensor clocked, we'll respond with the procedure.

The pickup tube isn't going to just slide in. Grease it a bit the use a hammer to get it in. I use a rubber hammer so it doesn't damage the tube.

One of the "old timers" that i used to work with told me once to put the pump in a vice or on a solid surface. Then find a open end wrench that fit over the pickup tube but not over the flare in the tube. Line up the pickup with the pump and use a hammer hitting the wrench to drive the tube into the pump. Has worked well for me.

That method will work, but I have seen broken tubes as a result of that as well. The pickup snapped off right where the wrench left marks in the tube. If you don't want to buy the special tool for installing the pickup tube then be sure to smooth out any marks that the wrench make on the tube.
