My oil pressure usually runs between 30ish and 60 depending on RPM. Today I noticed that is is swinging real far 20 to 80. Is this a bad sending unit or could something else be going on?
First, check the dip stick. If the level is low, the pickup could be cavitating (picking up air).
Second, check the connection where the wire plugs onto the sending unit. It's located on the passenger side of the engine, near the oil filter. Has a single wire going to the ouboard end of it.
Try unplugging the wire from the sender. Don't remember which way your year goes but with the wire off the needle should either read zero or be pegged to the right. Then ground the wire directly to the engine block and the needle should go to the opposite end of the scale.
If all those don't show a problem -- replace the sender.
