yes, should be a 23 spline and a direct fit... its possible, however, that your 97 will have a different pigtail to the speedo output, but if so you should be able to swap your 98 sensor over to the 97 case.
If you get it and need some help in doing any work on it, give me a ring. I would probably at least crack it open to check everything out and replace the nylon sliders on the shifter forks. They are around $5. I might even think of putting in a new output shaft seal for good measure.
Tom I agree. However I'm leaving to go hunting for a week Thursday morning at 9am so I won't have time to pull it all apart. I will definitely pull it back out and go through it when I get back. Hopefully it's in good working order to use for a week in the mountains before having to tear into it.
More than likely it will be just fine. I would however put a couple of quarts of ATF under the back seat for insurance.
Come over when you are done and we can have a tcase party. I need to drop mine and replace the seal in the back of the AW4. I even have a heated garage.
