well, my 97+ mirrors are due to arrive tommarrow, but I have a q for the install...theyre power mirrors, and I dont have power mirrors, is the harness there already? or how do I hook it up? any wiring diagrams? would they be in my chiltons book?

TIA

I don't know how it was done with the '97+ models, but when I pulled a power mirror from an '85 Waggy door for a friend, the mirror wiring was tapped off the wiring for the power windows. If you don't have power mirrors, you probably don't have power windows -- which means the harness isn't there and you'll have to fab your own.

sumbich, thanks eagle

now, how will i go about doing this?

I'd suggest looking for the harnesses out of an older XJ with power mirrors. you might have to cut and splice wires to make it work, but there's a slim chance that they'll just plug right in ;)

dammit, i knew it would be to easy for them to just plug into a harness that is already there, lol

it shouldnt be TOO hard...lmfao yeah right

I am thinking of doing the same change too. My 1984 XJ does not have power mirrors (it didn't have power windows either, but I changed that!), and the mirrors themselves are not the best ones I've seen, I wish I could see more things through them. Also, the price difference between the power ones and the plain ones is about 10 US$ (at Quadratec at least), so this makes the upgrade logical.

However, I still can't justify spending the 200+ dollars needed for this.

Rgds

I look at it differently, but I'm single so I don't have to switch off with a co-driver. Once I get the side mirrors set where I want them, I don't want or need a way to make it easy for someone else to change them. The MJs don't even have the popsickle stick adjuster, and that's just fine with me.

As to how to make it work, probably the easiest way if you have a spot for it on the console is to get the factory 4-way switch and just run wires from that. You need two circuits, one for up-down and one for left-right.

The other way (which is what I would choose because "real" toggle switches just look more authentic than designer switches) would be to use two single-pole double-throw toggle switches, one for each axis.

youre right eagle on the not having to worry about changing the position...and the only other person I let drive my jeep is my dad, and that hasnt happened in 2 years, lol, but for somereason, im just thinking if I have 97+ mirrors, and theyre power, and its not TOO hard, why not hook them up? lol

I will probably end up hooking them up to the 2 toggle switches, and putting the switches IN my center console...

its starting to come together now...:D :)
