I have a buddy looking to buy a 94 Nissan 4x4 for a DD. It has a 2.4 in it, which i believe should be the KA24E. The engine is dead and when he went pricing a replacement it showed different listings for 2wd and 4wd trucks. Anyone know what the difference is between the 2 engines? Can the 2wd engine be made to fit the 4wd? I assume both are KA24E, maybe just a difference in the oil pan/pickup tube?

I believe the bloks are the same, it is like you mentioned that the oil pan may be different to allow for the front corss member on the 4x4. I am finishing up a transmission swap on a 93 right now and it has the same motor and tranny as the 90 and 94 that I have as chore trucks. It is my understanding that a KA24E is the same across the different years HB trucks when tehy went away from the Z24 (?) motor in the early models.

thanks, thats what I was thinking.

I think the Z24 went away in 88 or so. My 85 has the Z24 and I'm looking into the possibility of swapping in a KA24E. I believe the manifolds from the 240's KA24E are interchangeable making for an easy turbo job. Plus, compared to the Z24, it's got EFI instead of carb'd and 4 sparkplugs instead of 8.
