Thanks to Clyde Zeller’s planning work, a delivery of many large boulders went into the contract project work on the Phone Murphy timber sale 4 long years ago. As a result, the Murphy Camp flat was covered with crushed rock and a lot of boulders were stockpiled there for an eventual 4WD rock crawl area.

Today Tom Dober of Banks Rock Products donated a day of work with an operator and 90,000 lb. shovel with grapple. We worked together to build a moderate rock crawl on the Murphy Camp Flat today using the boulders they delivered as part of project work included with that timber sale.

Murphy Camp now has a moderate S-Shaped 4WD rock crawl area! See pictures below.

Boulders at each end of the rock crawl are deeply buried to prevent displacement as machines enter and depart the rock crawl. Each side of the rock crawl area is bordered by very large boulders to retain the sides. There is also a good supply of smaller rocks in a nearby pile that users may place by hand in the crawl area if and when desired.

The road ditch line immediately below the flat is now protected by strategically placed boulders to prevent destruction of the road drainage. Please encourage users to utilize the play area provided in the flat and to stay out of the road ditch line and nearby timber.

Have fun! There is cell phone coverage about ½ mile to the west up the Toll Road if you need it. J

Thought i'd share :patriot:

Ill try and get the pics up in a lil bit.

Anyone know where this "Murphy's camp" is located ? is it the gravil pile right outside browns camp ? Ive never heard of it ? ? ?

Pics or it didn't happen! ;)

I caught wind of this project last year, and am glad to see they followed through with it.

I'm not familiar with "Camp Murphy" though. I searched around a bit, and didn't come up with too many results. I don't think it's near our usual loop of trails though.

The reason no one knows where it is and what not is because it isn't real. They are just making up a place and saying this was done to it to make us happy. lol

Here is a pic I found of it. Not sure if its finished in this pic, but doesn't look to big, kinda like a wider version of the rock garden at the top of fb5.
