new to forum I have a ?

HI everyone, just found this forum and it looks quite good. Seems to be a lot of knowlageable folks when it comes to Jeeps.
Hope someone could help me to find some info on how to change the rear axel seals on my 2002 GC ?

How do i tell what type of rear diferential does it have?
reading on the site, it doesn't seem to be to much of a big job, I just want to get some insite on what parts to get, but not knowing what type it is makes this the chalange OR do i have to take it apart to find out???

Its nice to have the parts correct before i start the Darn thing Thanks to anyone and everyone who might be willing to help a guy out, and make some new connections in the Jeep world

For a Grand Cherokee you might have better luck posting on http://www.nagca.com/forum/ instead of a Cherokee forum.

I believe you have either a Dana35 for the I6 or a Dana44 rear axle for the V8. http://coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml. Which you have will decide how the bearing and seals get replaced.

Also, the d35 in the WJ (iirc) is a non c clip axle. You have to pull the bearing retainer plate out and I'm not sure how you get to the seal itself, probably have to pull the bearing?

Seconding NAGCA, good luck! :thumbup: they know a lot more about Grands than we do, most guys here only know enough about Grands to figure out which parts we can steal off them at the junkyard though a few are good with them.

Yup, you have to cut the bearing and retaining collar off and replace them.
