I'm not sure exactly all of the items I will be modding but I am thinking another 4.3 tbi 700r4 and np 231;) . Maybe a bit of body massaging with the sawzall and voila I hope to have a cheromanche :attom: still thinking of the running gear and tire size but knowing myself I wont keep it low

I met a few of you at the carnage fest I was there with TIJA and driving the

I am new to the xj's so let me know if you guys have any suggestions or ideas, first thing in my head is half doors almost buggy style interior cage and a chevy drivetrain (I have a spare 4.3 in the garage :spin1:).

It's been years since I saw my old Jeep...

Last time I saw it the running gears was:
2.8L, TF904, NP207, D35 with 4.56 (non-C), (D30 disco with 4.56), 31" MTs.

Any pics of it before Jaymo got hold of it I am told it looked much better then. The old axles were parted and it has some stockers under it now not sure of the ratio yet.

Finally decided to join the Cherokee world. You must of liked what you seen at Carnagefest:D Good luck on the build. Oh yeah, if you decide to get rid of the drivetrain let me know. I could use that 904.

I have a question about starting a new project. I have a 1992 XJ Cherokee and am looking at a 4.5 inch lift cause my budget wont allow me to go over 5 inches right now. The one I was looking at was very reasonable and with the lift I was also gunna put coil spacers in the front and larger shackles to get her to ride on 33's. What would you suggest as far as new front and rear drive shafts? I dont know what to get because I dont want to spend 300 dollars on new ones. Thanks for the help.

Yeah I figured I could build one that would be able to follow the cj through the mud holes :roflmao: . I will be scrapping the entire drivetrain, pm me with what you need or want. I have to do some research on pricing or you can make me an offer right now. I will probably be running bigger axles as well:eyes: , so those will be going or getting parted out too.

Yeah, that last one is a favorite of my of the ol' chief. I know I've got more but it's been a while since I seen them. I'll keep looking.

Well judging by the pics it sure looks like this cherokee has had its share of wheeling  . I want to see the pic of it getting over that last big rock , I am sure it was a good wheeler then but Jaymo swapped the axles out so it might not be as capable now:hang:.
Ron I'm sorry but it won't look like that much longer I just picked up some new sawzall blades and grinding wheels :explosion

Hey Kim, if you want the drivetrain it is gonna go. I have a 4.3 sitting in the garage I am thinking I will use that. What parts of it would you want and do you want to buy or do some swapping. The things I definitely need are as follows.

New gears or just new axles probably a better route and I might have a line on an 8.8
New bumpers I got none
I have the 4.3 but I am still looking for a chevy trans and tcase (might go d300 clocked)
Lift parts I am going to go at minimum 4.5 inches of lift probably higher (after my 38.5's on the cj 33's seem so small:looney: )
Steel is always a trade item for me as I try to do all of my own fab work:idea: .

I am sure there is more I could use and will be removing so just let me know what you want.

As a matter of fact, I do have a pic of him getting over that last big rock. If I remember correctly, it took the help of a high-lift to finish. It's been 5 years since those pics at McCaslin I'll try and find some more. It was a fun rig. 4.56's and lock rites front and rear w/31 muds it wheeled real well for the smallish tires. It was fun watching the flames belch out of the tailpipe when Ron hit the high rpm's and then let off it. In your pics I can see some dents that hold a lot of stories. Keep us posted with what mods you do with it.

Steve

Yah, I always had a ball with that rig. With the 2.8L I couldn't hurt anything ;)

I got that rig from Scott Rozzman of MadXJ fame, infact I believe that rig is in some of the write ups (heculiner, floor plugs...). When I got it someone had done a sad rebuild job on the 2.8, hooked up the advance wrong and it pinged itself to death. I had a 85' you could see though so I retired it and swapped the 2.8L from that into it, and also the 3.73 axles as Scott kept the OEM 4.10 axles and put them under his 88'.

That rig took me on my honeymoon and countless other cool wheeling places and always brought me back. When I decided to go wheeling in Colorado, I decided that having a carburated engine wasn't going to cut it at altitude and got a 98'. I sold the rig to Jaymo shortly after that.

I see the tank skid is gone as is the rear bumper, the "winch adapter" I made and also the HF winch. There are pix of that rig all over the web in various states of build from stock to the condition you just got it in.

Brian- no problem, things change. It looks like it had a hard life with owner #3 and has no where to go except the yard or your tender mercies ;) Whatever you do with it, I hope you have as much fun with it as I did!

These are the only other pix I could find. http://www.mcjag.org/FTP/oldjeep/
One pix is from Apple valley farms about 2002, the other from an observation platform in a MI state park about 2002.

Man seeing those pics almost makes me think twice about cutting up the body almost  . It really looks like a sweet rig in those pics and yes I would say it took a turn for the worse but hey thats ok, I have plans and will keep you advised.

Being a newbie to the xj world what do you think is a good way to lift it. Iam looking for about 6" of lift

Man those are some great pics. I took that little tired Xj on trails noone that I could. I to loved that old rig. But picked up a 4 door a couple of years later and started building.

Zukiron, Is that the rock that tweeked the passenger side rail on? I couldent believe that it never affected the wat it drove.....
