my 95 pound per side sliders. Is it just me or do these seem to be a bit too beefy? 1/4 inch-3x6-65 inches long.

Okay, so my mathematic estimate was off; a hair over 70 pounds per side. Thats better but still heavier then I want.

Having said that, I'll probably install them and look for stuff to bash into.

2x4x3/16" here... I'm thinking that anything tearing up 3/16" rockers would play HELL with the sheetmetal that the rockers are welded to...

If you're tying it to a subframe or cage I could see some more beef but for my application I think 1/4" would have been overkill.

OTOH, I don't ever remember saying that something built for my jeep was just "too damn strong!"

Think about what you are doing there. You rock rail is blocking your front leaf spring bolt. I know you think you will not be changing those springs out anytime soon, but what if you bend one or break one? Shorten them up and then you will not have to worry about removing them to get your springs out!

my cherokee had 2x2 .25 on it, and they worked great...but 2x4 3/16 would be better....anything bigger is just dead weight...

Yup, I did it. Not welded in yet;

Traded about 2.5 pounds of steel foil for 70 lbs of steel that my xj is hardly worthy of;

There is chance that I'll curse these sliders when I re-work the springs, but looking at it in place they sit about a 1/4 inch below the pinch seam. I recall the need to pull the socket and finish with a wrench... It might be ok.

Maybe I made mine in closer then most. I could not even get the bolt out the hole. It's a very long bolt.

You are correct, a very long bolt there. I'm sure it needs to be 'tilted just to clear the pinch seam, moreso with the rocker there now. If it gets to the point I become frustrated I guess I could cut out a section and weld in some pipe as a channel. I kinda hope I never have to do that.

And I put mine flush against the pinch seam.

i used .25 wall plate and found it makes it much eaiser if you just remove the old rockers. :eeks1:

commandtoad: Yup the old rockers are sitting in the scrap pile now, BTW I like your miny boatsides approach to this.

MELKORsXJ: Beefy? Yeah, like the double 1/3 pound burger of rockers beefy. It will defininitly cause a 'lower center of gravity' as far as sprung weight goes.
