Just thought I would introduce myself. I'm Tom, from Highlands Ranch.
I bought a 1991 XJ 2 door 5 speed. I've owned a few in the past, and wanted to get back into Jeeping. The Jeep has 188,000 miles on the original engine. Not leaking any fluids, the previous owner changed out the rear main seal last year. Good brakes. Steering wanders a little bit. The previous owner says there are bolts that loosen up that need to be tightened (???). Under really hard acceleration, my wife said a little smoke came out, but on the way home, it seemed to go away. Clutch is good. Engine seems strong and peppy, even with all of those miles. It's the 4.0L I6. No A/C. Never had it. Has a dummy pully mounted where the compressor would go. Not even an A/C switch on the dash. This is a really base model. The tires are good, and it has a new exhaust system.
The interior is so-so. Cracked dash, headliner is sagging. The driver's seat is shot, the passenger's is filthy. It needs some carpet in the back.
The exterior is kind of a dull gray. Just a spot of rust on the bottom of each door, otherwise clean. No real dents. The front bumper is pushed in a little on the driver's side, but I so no frame damage. Missing a piece of trim above the grill, and another piece behind the passenger side rear quarter window. The rubber on the driver's side rear quarter window looks cracked and will need to be replaced.
But that's the extent of it. I gave $900 for it. Drove it home. Did well on the highway.
I don't think that's too bad a price for the Jeep. If I can get the steering problem resolved, and get a couple of front seats, I think I could do a little mountain wheeling this summer. And use it this winter for some occasional winter commuting.
In the next few months, I'll probably ask some technical advice questions, so bear with me. I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance. Here's a couple of pics.
