Hey guys I realize this has nothing to do with my XJ at all but I need a Briggs and Stratton 3.5 Horsepower Classic lawnmower engine. If anyone has one lying around or if anyone can get me one cheap that'd be awesome-I need one ASAP! A 3HP would work as well. Hope I didnt post this in the wrong area maybe I should have done in the off-topic. Oh well. Anyway response ASAP would be fantastic.

Do you need a horizontal shaft engine or a vertical shaft motor ? I fix these on the side so that I can buy tools to fix my Jeeps.

The civic wont do me any good sorry. The mower is a vertical shaft. If you have one thatd be great.

I have a couple. One is a 3.5 HP Vertical Shaft Techumseh (I think...or maybe it is a briggs, will check) that would probably be perfect. Along with a lot of other spare parts. Runs awesome! FREE for a fellow jeeper if you can pick up. I'm in MN.

These vertical shaft motors come with different length output shafts and use several different key styles. If you could measure the length of shaft you need and describe the key that would help.

If it's a Briggs that would work fantastic! I would pay to have it shipped but I probably wont be gettin to Minne any time soon. Name a shipping charge and Ill throw ya a couple bucks on top. If it's a Tecumseh tell me because I'll have to see if it'll fit mine. Thanks a lot! That'll be a big help!

As for the shaft measurements I'm not sure I can get back to you on that one.

Have you found one yet? I work in a lawnmower shop and sometimes we get mowers that are dead but the engines are salvageable- so we have some laying around. What brand of mower is it off of, and about what year? I'll take a look at work tomorrow.

The engine I need is off a Snapper late 80s or early 90s I believe. I took it to a shop today and they said I could fit any engine on it and I would just need an adapter. Any help would be awesome.

Sorry for the delay, been pretty busy. I haven't found anything yet. Does it have to be a 3.5 HP engine? Seems like pretty much any engine of a Snapper of the same age with a compatible deck would work. I'll take a good last look in the back to make sure we don't have something that would work. You might also want to consider a new engine from Northern Tool or a similar retailer. They sell many different brands of small 4 cycles and I'm sure you could find one that would work. That might be your best bet for reliability, etc. The only thing is I'm not sure if they sell specific lawnmower engines. You might have to tap the crankshaft for a blade, and I definitely wouldn't recommend doing that. But long story short, I'll see what I might have.

Not lookin to spend quite 100 bucks but ATL ZJ if you have anything like a 3.5 it would work thatd be great! Get back to me whenever you can. Thanks.

I looked and don't have anything that would work. Sorry for making you hold out so long. Best of luck with it though.
