Need Brake HELP!

Hey Gang,

On the way home from Xmas shopping the XJ started pulling to the right. I continued home and noticed the passenger side rotor was smoking hot! I pull the tire about 20 mins later and the rotor spun, but there was some heat damage. What do I need to replace??? What do you guys think the root cause is? Bad caliper … brake line???

Also note the Xj got new rotors and car bin M brake pads about 6,000 miles ago.

sounds to me like you have a sticky caliper.. holding enough pressure to build friction/heat... lube the slides.. check the pads for "glazing" resurface them with some coarse sandpaper.. and maybe have the rotor re-surfaced if it is glazed as well.. this would get better results if you posted it in the OEM tech forum..

You probably got it fixed by now, but it definitely sounds like a sticking caliper. rebuilt replacements are not expensive after core trade-in.
