How are ya, long time lurker
Who here is running an off the shelf front shock, with around 5.5 inches of lift, and still can flex?
The reason I ask is, I have skycrapper hydros, I have pulled the threads off of the studs twice now! Too much flex? Too sudden?
I would like to walk in to my parts dealer of choice and ask for a shock that will not limit the amount of flex, I have looked at post after post, and not a single one of them gives a part number, what works, what doesn't. I hope somebody here can answer this. Sorrry that this sounds like a rant, it's not ,but I have searched, and it's like 2:30 a.m. here in Texas . TIA

I've run the Hydros for a few years and been quite happy with them. (lots of daily driving and regular Moab use) Sounds like the problem is more of a bumpstop issue than a shock.
While you may need longer shocks, using them to limit your suspension travel eventually takes it's toll, especially with a stud type upper mount. I've run the RE eye type shock bracket up front top and a BPE on the bottom for several years and would highly suggest this to anyone that actually uses their rig and flexes it up to the limit.
You'll have a larger selection of shocks with eyes on each end as well.
I'm running 6" of lift ......Skyjacker Hydro PN H7058S....which if I recall are a 10.75" travel shock. Keep in mind that I'm running an eye-type shock adapter top and bottom, which shorten the travel about 1". I've seen folks use a weld-on stud for the front lower mount which will eliminate the bar pin setup and also allow you to run a slightly longer shock.....i.e. 12" of travel.

Ed has a list of shocks for various applications. Not sure which of his help pages it's on.

By "flex" it sounds like you're looking for more droop. Be careful. You don't need just a longer shock, because that would then limit your compression ("stuff"). There is a balance that must be struck. If your shocks are too long, when the suspension stuffs the shocks will top out and either self-destruct, or be rammer right through the top of the shock tower.

For that lift:RS9255/front and RS9256/rear
