Planning on cutting up my front bumper and building a winch bumper out of a non winch bumper similar to EricsXJ's. In my opinion, my Warn 8K winch is pretty wide and could use some narrowing, but how to do that? Does anyone have experience cutting your winch up to narrow it? I'm thinking I could cut the spool in half, narrow it and reweld the spool, and lathe it smooth again. Anyone have a different idea? Any better options?

No but wopuld be interested in your build once you get done. A narrowed winch would work great on the rear of a rig as well. Good Idea!

The guy that built that rig that owns 4locked films narrowed a winch for his moonbuggy, you could probly pm him on pirate and ask

Thats basicly what he did. The was some pics and a writeup on PBB. Just makes sure everything is straight after you weld it.

I ended up forking over the 20 bucks so I could search, firgured it might help later. The thread was ok. Just kinda glanced over how he did it, but it didn't really explain how he centered the spool ends and all, but overall, it gave some good ideas. Looking at the part diagrams, it looks like he was right, the warn has stuff inside the spool. I haven't taken the winch appart yet, but from looking at it, it might have stuff on both ends, making it hard to cut off an end. I'm thinking cutting out the center of the spool so you can line everything up a little easier than cutting off the end of the spool.

My Rigid Co. It'll be really tight it looks like, but I might extend the area where it'll be out an inch or so. Nothing major, but it'll retain the same approach angle and all. I pretty much plan to copy EricsXJ and what he did, but narrow my Warn 8K to the 9K RC size.
