I just picked up a new Jeep, well not new new but new enough for me. Got a 99 WJ Loaded leather and all that good stuff, but got it with the 4.7 V8 and the Quadradrive system. Its awesome even if only one wheel has traction the Jeep still drives, kinda sorta like being locked , so far it works well. I like it.

georotors are cool... spark plug changes on that puppy OTOH...

I periodically wonder why more people aren't putting the gerotor system in the front axles of their XJs. It's really an ideal system ... works just the opposite of a Trac-Lok.

Trac-Lok is "locked" until there's enough torque bias to make the clutches slip. The gerotor, on the other hand, although it uses clutches is normally unlocked. When it senses a speed difference between the two axles on that diff, it operates a pump that uses hydraulic pressure to start engaging the clutches. More spin = more pressure = better lockup.

I thought Dana-Spicer was going to start selling it on the aftermarket under the name Hydro-Lok. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Yep I still have the XJ, but I won't lie, I thought about trading the XJ in, then snapped back into reality and worked it differently so in the end it all worked out and so now me and the Misses have 2 Jeeps which really means I have 2 Jeeps : ) she will just have to be surprised one day when I bring it back from an Oil change and it is sitting 2 inches higher, but I'll deal with that when it happens. But anyways, that quadradrive system works awesome so far, I took it out back at work and climbed up all sorts of stuff I was impressed, its going back to the Stealership monday for warrentee work. The rearend whines alot, and the pinion seal is leaking bad, plus the HVAC controls do nothing unless you want all the air coming out of the defroster vents. Damn I really hate Dealerships but anyways all this just makes me appreciate my XJ tho no problems that I can't handle so far at least. And to think I started off looking at pinzgauers and some how ended up with a WJ Keeping it Jeep .

And on a side note, Eagle, where did you learn so much about Jeeps??? I have been doing nothing but spending what little time I have researching WJ's and everything about them and yet still know pretty much nothing about them and especially how the quadradrive system works. I am impressed, werent you working on making a book about Jeeps at one point? or do I have you confused with someone else?

I went through a period of some personal problems and stopped working on the book, but it's going to start again as soon as my wife gets here (she's currently in Chile helping her son get his business off the ground, and waiting for the U.S. embassy to stop dicking around with her visa). As to the WJ ... I had a '99 WJ. Almost sold the '88 XJ when I bought the WJ, but I couldn't get my price and then the WJ had some problems and DCX bought it back from me because they couldn't fix it, so I was happy I still had "Old Faithful."

My WJ had the QuadraDrive system and that part of it worked great. That's why I keep wondering why people aren't putting that "locker" (dunno if it's a limited slip, and automatic locker, or something else) in their front diffs. I loved it.

BTW -- don't know how fast you drive, but with the 4.7L V-8 I found that the difference between driving at the speed limit or 10 MPH faster was at least 2 MPG.

Yeah I noticed the MPG difference when going a bit faster than I am supposed to, that little computer its pretty cool at calculating MPG. So what was wrong with yours that DC couldn't fix. Mine has some problems and is supposed to get fixed tomorrow, but I dont have all that much faith in the ability of this dealership. Hope it all works out tho.

Nice Tom!!!!

hey moto, i just pulled off the old suprise lift on my wife, now she says i have to get her side bars so she can get in the zj.....lol

97 XJ 2dr. Daystar 2" lift, 31" BFG KO's, lots of Paragon rash
98 ZJ laredo Daystar 2" lift, 32" BFG KO's, slightly angry wife...

LoL good job, hopefully something like that happens for me, all though I am not sure that she will even notice, she didnt even notice when she went out one morning and my XJ was sitting alot taller and had some Meats on it, she only noticed that I didnt come home till 6am, when I called her the next day at work, she said she didnt even notice when she walked past it in the morning to get to ger car, so hopefully in due time the same will be true for the WJ. I just got it back from the dealership tonight, all fixed. It took them a while but so far so good, I am gonna go flog all day tomorrow and see just how well they fixed it.
