My little truck project...Mighty Mouse

Well it's about time I started a build thread even though I've had the truck for about 2 years now. Most of you know I have an MJ. Yes, that's right, I have an MJ, well a couple actually but this thread is for "MM", or Mighty Mouse.

It's a 1989 LWB 2WD, 4.0/AW4 with a D35 in the rear. I'm not a huge fan of the LWB but I must admit it has grown on me over the years.

I got the truck a couple years from our very own Dougie-Doug-Doug, shortxjdoug. I got it for what I thought was a bargain. It had a bad motor in it and some dented sheet metal a couple holes in the floorboard, but hey, it was a starter vehicle for Jackie, my daughter, so I figured what the heck and for the price, if she wrecked it, I wasn't out much.

I guess the first thing I did was to swap the motor out for another Renix 4.0. I replaced the dented drivers side fender and door and fixed up the header panel and headlight bezels and she was good to go.
I know reading isn't any fun but I don't have alot of pictures of the truck when I got it. Most of the pics I have are recent ones so I'll pick up there.

Here is the replaced fender and door and also the Canyon rims I put on it.

This is my new corners and turn signal lens with my new headlight housings and H4 bulbs and a newish header panel and grill.

More to come....

It lives on.

It came with a bench seat but I put a set of buckets in it and put in some new carpet. I currently have a late model center console in it but I'd love to have a factory MJ console.

I also swapped in a full set of gauges, I just wanted a tach.

Here's a couple shots of the current motor. It runs pretty good but won't idle for crap.

I swapped in a set of mustang injectors and I got 5-90's battery cable upgrade to.

Very nice. I like the bucket swap.

Thanks. It took a while to find the bucket brackets for the MJ but I finally did. I got the seats from 256offroad. Thanks David!! I wouldn't mind having some ZJ seats but I got to say, the buckets are a tight fit with the center console so I'm not sure if they would fit since they are a little wider than the stock seats.

The old truck had a sliding rear window in it when I got it but it wouldn't open and i really didn't want it so I got a solid rear glass from a JY and had it put in. I also got a toolbox for it. Makes it easier to carry all the tools around I have to have to keep it going. Hahaha!!!

I never liked truck tool boxes until I had one on the work truck... they are outright convenient!

I've been meaning to buy one since the day I bought my truck..... Other toys keep stealing the money

They are cheap as heck on Craigslist. Everyone seems to be getting rid of them.

Nice I have a 88 MJ out back for my twin boys.... got everything together but the lift and tires to start on the build.... even got a bad *** winch bumper for it! :gee: I heard a pallet was delivered to work... any pictures of that?

Nice start on it. I know you said it is for your daughter but are there any plans for future building?

I want a MJ for my son he turns 15 next month so he will be driving next year.

Actually, when it was bought it was for her, but now it's all mine!!!! As for building, it's gonna be built but not for offroad.:shhh:

I saw that bumper and yes it is bad ***!!!! As for the pallet delivered to work, well...it's not @ work anymore, it's resting @ home on a stand. Pictures....maybe soon, really soon!!

Stop teasing us already!!!!!!

Can't wait to see how the MJ turns out. Always cool to see vehicles that are destined for automotive heaven get another chance at life :)

Well....

A little update. I found an 8.8 with 4.10's and a limited slip at the PAP for under $90.00 so I grabbed it. I had to change the yoke out on it to fit the smaller joint but that wasn't a problem.

I've got to get new brake parts for it and rebuild the LS carrier but the gears look like they are in great shape.

At the Crawl I won an 8.8 swap kit and it couldn't have been a better prize.

I also got a rebuilt steering box from old_man here on NAXJA, the one in it has a little play.

He sure does package these babies up tight!! It arrived in excellent condition.

Cool Mark! I picked that up MJ with Douggie doug on some far aways lost in the boonies place.
Glad your fixing it up!

I like projects :) ...and pics!

I like pics too.

I'm still collecting some parts but here is a preview of what's happening with the truck...ultimately.

It's currently on an engine stand in my shop. I've been cleaning a little on it.

It's out of a 2002 Camaro so it has the right oil pan already on it.

I'll be using Novaks motor mounts, headers and even the radiator they offer.

I've got the Kwik Performance alt/power steering pump relocation bracket.

I also got a new power steering pump from them.

I still have several parts to go before I'm ready...

So what happened to.the red mj?

It's still sitting in Ed's shop with a bad rust problem. The entire drivers floor and drivers side tranny hump will have to be replaced.
