my 1st rear bumper build

I finally decided to build a rear bumper for my XJ. I wanted to continue the "tuck" of my rear corners and get a rear tow point. It is braced on the ends as well as braced at 1/4 points. Let me know what you guys think. I'm going to add some reverse lights once I get some money.

is that just welded to the stock bumper mounts? fitment could use some help too, looks crooked and has gaps on the ends. whats that reciever mount to? theres a lot of room for improvement there it looks like. those end pieces are probably just gunna fold up into the tail light with any decent hit too it seems.

The pics don't do it justice as far as crooked. I think its the angles I have going on that makes it look crooked. I also wanted to leave a bit of room so if I do take any sort of decent hit that I might have some play if it does bend. I was thinking of plating under the folded quarter panels but couldn't come up with a good way to brace it if I take a hit from under neath. Thanks for your comments! Keep em coming!

Ya I used the stock bumper mounts but I plated them on 3 sides with 3/16" plate. Should be fine until I decide to smash up this bumper. What would you suggest I do next time?

plated or not, its a weak mount attached in a weak way. the best way to do rear bumper mounts is some 2x4 rect tubing sleeved inside the framerail so it picks up the 5 mounting locations on the bottom of the rails. search under my profile for threads started by me and you'll find my rear bumper build.

Those edge pieces are gonna cause more.damage than.they prevent. how.this is material you are using? or is this just a.template??

Its 3/16. Edge pieces? You mean folding in and damaging tail lights? I'm worried about that, but I figure if I come down hard enough on 37's nothing is going to help. Its more cosmetic than anything. I'm in my trial stage and would like to someday produce quality work, so please keep the comments coming!

Those are 37's? Look like 33's.
But what does tire size have to do with anything?.
Why not build out of something heavier, make the 1/4 pieces thicker and.better supported? maybe even run a leg into the frame rail right there.

What is the point of protecting the tai lights but not the body? I would have done it different, def add more support to the bumper/frame a lot.

Its all pianted and ready to go back on. I'll snap some pics before I do. I'm going to remove my sliders cause I want to do recessed sliders out of 2x6 now. Then ill go under the cut corners w 2x4 rector and I'll also sleeve the frame rail w 2x4 for mounts. My only question is what do you guys doabout the upper shackle bolt that portrudes into the frame rail?

Good way to make someone mad at you.if that light box area.folds.
i wouldn't sell stuff you fab until you can run it on yours with pure confidence and no you are not going.to get anyone hurt or killed.

The design isn't terrible, but w/o additional mounting I'd fully expect to see that thing rip off as soon as somebody gave it even a slight tug with a strap.
