Mt. Bross

Just wanted to post about a run I did at Bross today. This was really my first 4 wheeling trip (not even sure if you all would call it that). All I can say is WOW. Everything was cool. Not a cloud in the sky. My nerves were fine. I think I'm ready for something maybe a bit harder. Would like to try Red Cone but I know I'm probably running out of time. About what time of year do the trails start to close b/c of snow?

i hiked democrat, lincoln, and bross a couple of weeks ago and saw a tj at the top. i looked on a map, and it show the land belonged to the mining company or something. is it legal to drive to the top? i'd like to know so i can take my wife to the top instead of hiking. thanks

Well...I know of a bunch that just did it last week. There's nothing that says it's illegal. I just moved here a few weeks ago. I am using colorado4x4, this site, and trail damage for my info. I did talk with the sheriff in Alma about it and he gave me directions to the trail and even told me about it's level of difficulty. So I guess I can't officially answer your question. I'm pretty responsible and if I think there's the slightest chance that an area is private, I stay clear. Hope this helps.

I did it a couple of weeks ago. It is in both of the big Colorado trails books and I didn't see any no trespassing signs. It is an easy trail but fun because you summit a 14er. There was a couple in a stock Chevy trail blazer that did it the day I went. Watch your weather and you will have a blast. It is worth the drive just to see the look on the faces of the people who spent all morning hiking the thing when you drive past them at the summit!

yeah...i got to be one of those people who were surpised to see a jeep on top. I will be the next to put that look on people's faces.

The way I understood it from what was written in the paper...It is private property but it doesnt sound like its really going to be enforced. The mining company that bought the mineral rights to Bross,Lincoln,Democrat, etc. are declaring it private property mainly for liability reasons. If someone gets hurt or whatever then the property owner(s) can claim they were trespassing to avoid a lawsuit.Like I said this is just my take on what I read in the paper so take it as you will. :lecture: :)
