Moab

Since I have nothing else to do but look at the new snow. So I'm thinking of Moab.

I know Ryans thoughts, but how does the BOD feel about shortening the spring Moab trip? The few comments I've seen are positive. It Does not matter to me. Although if we shorten it, I'll save an extra day of Vacation.

Dinner: Any ideas where we want to do this? I liked the Pavillion place by the river. Maybe I need to check into reserving this place if it can be done? Hamburgers and Hotdogs the norm I suppose?

Is this going to be our "National" event? If so are we going to request sponsorship items from National? If so I can talk to Seqouia to see if he can round up some stuff.

I know it's a long ways away, but the sooner we can get some of this taken care of the less stress we'll have when the event gets here.

I thought we did shorten the event. Isn't it down to 26th -29th from the 24th? I also thought there was talk about the Uintahs trip being the IC's event for 2007 as the FF is not ours this year and we didn't want our spring Moab trip to conflict with FF. What I mean by conflict is people decide to come to our spring run over the fall trip. Dave Ryan, am I correct here?

The idea to shorten it has been tossed around. I did not think it had been set 100% yet. Thats why I posted this, to clearify that a little bit. :)

It has been discussed to make the Uintahs thing our national event, but also talk about keeping it a chapter event. I do not think a decision was made on that one. Goatman was worried about our spring run interfering with the FF but I'm pretty sure it won't have an effect this year being 5 months apart.

The shortened Spring run in Moab was agreed as a very good thought by the BOD members who had discussed it. Clint put it out to the members to get there thoughts. Most seem to feel the same. Save a day of vacation for anther run. However this is not to prevent others from having a longer trip It was just to limit the official length.

Based on what we have heard I think it will be the short version.
Now to add a the confusion. What days do we want to schedule official activities. Do we want it to be a 3 day event, Thursday through Saturday. That will limit the offical trails and times so those traveling longer distances will not miss anything.

I think we need offical trails all 3 days (Thurs, Fri, Sat). It has been said that on the longer events that one is usually always a "Goof Off" day. With the shortened event, I do not think we'll need that day of "nothing" If I'm only going to be down for 3 days, I want to maximize the amount of time on the trail with the members.

Yep with the short 3 day run, we don't really have time for a goof off day. That can be done before or after.

I'm not sure I understand why you feel like your time wouldn't be spent well if one day didn't have official trails?

Maybe I am just burnt out on the structured system we have used in both the Spring Run and Fall Fling but to be honest I bet we could plan it with no runs any day and people would just set up their own runs anyway(not saying I want to do this)

I think if We did two runs...one Thursday, one Saturday and then Friday planned on the Dinner at a set time and let the group do what they want you would find most people would end up running together anyway.

Well first, I think most would find it a lack of content and not show. Some of our members are not quite the "Moab Vets" such as yourself. They need the structure and guidance that "planned" runs entail. Albeit there are plenty of things to do in Moab on your own, I feel the majority of the membership who would be going may not know this.

Second, people are going to do what they want no matter what. We should plan 3 runs and those who want to "Free Will" and learn more of things to do can and will.

Works for me. I don't really care.

One thing to remember when you are working on the run or runs for Friday. They need to be short. Moab Rim, Poison Spider Mesa, Fins and things...Trails like this although not necessarily those ones. That way we can make sure and get back in time for the BBQ.

Just opinions. I'm up for what the BOD and the membership can compromise upon. I'm just here to help make it happen.

Friday and short trails have already been taken into consideration. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I agree with Clint on this one. We need to have trails schedule for all three days.

Just make sure we are not scheduled as trail leaders for Friday and can run off and do our own thing:D

Or we can run the short trails Friday and run off with Jeremy to the sand dune area Saturday.

More Moab on the brain. Are we going to do a dinner Friday night? Just BBQ? I can bring a BBQ down in the back of my truck if needed...Just thinking outloud.

BBQ but I am not bringing my grill. We need to find another way to cook it.

I think we should do it at that park again. It seemed to be bigger and better equipped to handle our crowd.

Mine is stupid big and heavy. It cost me 600 bucks and it was brand new last year. We broke it getting it into my truck.

I just don't wanna break it again. What we really need is two more reasonable sized smaller grills. You bringing them is a good idea...we can eat off of them while we are camping. :D

My pops has a smaller older grill. My Grandpa has a nice decent grill that is not super heavy. As long as I had help Im sure I could get it.

Does Derek have a grill?
Or can he find one?

Will Derek be able to attend?????????

It would be a sad trip to Moab without Derek.
Looks like Derek is out again.
Let's hope he keeps his head down until the end of April.
