Military Jeep J8

Yeah , I saw that . However there has got to be some footage of an AH-64
turning a toyota pick up into swiss cheese . I saw a couple of clips back in the
90's durring dessert storm . freaking amazing , I'm sure there's something on U tube somewhere ...

I think I have that video? I got a couple that were gruesomely detailed and showed real destruction the likes a movie could not detail.

Myth busters is cool, but I would have to agree they do not always take "all the steps" in disproving a myth. i.e., the exploding DVD/CD-rom, been there and have it happen to me. I just hate it when people base reality on what they see on the boob-tube. The big myth that drives me nutz right now. The cell phone at the gas pump..................Static electricity people, not my T-mobile signal Idiots!!!

BTW I said;"If the conditions were right the gas can would explode." I tried, when I was young, stupid, and incredibly curious my cousin and I tried to get a 5 gallon metal gas can to explode. After 20+ rounds all we had was a holy gas can and gas saturated ground. Albeit we had no tracer rounds................:gag:

The J8 would make great on base security vehicles and for foreign governments on a low budget, at least they are buying US product. :D

Yeah , the only good thing about our tax dollars going to another worthless
patrol vehicle is that it pays for the R&D and production of these vehicles ,
so in retrospect we should get them cheep ...

I want to see a J8 pickup for under 30K , otherwise you won't catch me riding dirty in a mall machine . Its funny how many cheerleader JK's on huge tires
still rubberneck my truck .

The military is replacing the armored hmmwv's but non-armored hmmwv's will be around for a while. I don't think my shop is rebuilding them just to let them go to waste, because it's not cheap to rebuild these things.

One day though we're going to get into a real war against a real army and all these oversized, super armored, highway cruising, convoy machines are going to be worthless. I know I wouldn't want drive a buffalo or mrap up a windy mountain road. We're going to need to go back to lighter, faster, and more agile vehicles. Personally I would love to see us go back to using Jeeps and I think something like a 4dr JK diesel could work really well. The concept vehicles shown though wouldn't be all that great in my opinion

JLTV was ruled out some time ago, the new hotness is the MATV, produced by Oshkosh, they are pushing alot of these into the stan.

and the HMMWV is underpowered and outdated. insurgents are flipping them on goat trails daily in Afghanistan with under-belly IED's, and all that armor is a must. I have done way too many post blast analysis's on HMMWV that were completely shredded. The MATV is a solid rig, and i think it's going to do wonders for protecting our boys.

I'll still take my ride over all of them.

Wow , thanks for posting that ! It almost brought a tear to my eye .
I don't even think any of the guys I served with are around anymore .
Nice to see some guys still putting in some work . They didn't let us have beards though ...:D

That guy kneeling on the right, i see him in all sorts of pics. last one was one about the scar being fielded

Are you sure you're not thinking of Danny Dietz?
He was a SEAL killed in A-stan a few years ago... from Littleton, graduated from Heritage High School... the most famous picture of him is him kneeling with his M4 just like that. I'm sure it's a pretty well known pic by now... the statue of him in Clement Park is modeled on it.
If you want to read Lone Survivor, it's worth it. It's the story of the battle written by the only SEAL from the 4 man team that survived.

And as for the beards, spec ops are allowed to have facial hair to fit in more with the cultures they're dropped into.
