going extremly tall in an 89 and im not gona find the amount of lift i want in just one 8 inch spring. Has anyone ever hear of welding two coils together t make a monster coil or am i crazy for thinkin it

Zip tie 4 together for 32" lift.

You're crazy - that will do rude things to your spring rates!

I don't have the formulae handy, but they should be findable with a little Googling. They essentially come down to, as I recall, a function of the spring wire diameter and the number of coils - that's a large part of why ricers with cut springs bounce around so damn much.

Honestly, you'd probably be better off getting springs wound to order than trying to fab something like that up - you want to be safe, don't you?

How high are you trying to go, anyhow? If you're thinking up fabrication ideas like that, the idea itself may be just a little outlandish...

You're crazy. Welding will heat warp the springs. Everybody knows that you should use JB weld & than hose clamps. Do a search, it's been cover countless times...
well actually a very high heat rappid fusion quick pass with a TIG torch and some MIL-S-8802-F adheasive would work much better. if you use F150 coils in conjunction with ford aerostar rear coils. the spring rate would normalize at around the same level as the origional stock coils with a angulation factor of 10.8 degrees of deflection in relation to the quotient of stupidity of the fabricator!! :read: at least thats what my professor says.

Cool, you'll end up with dual rate springs as well.

patf1234, if indeed you are not a troll (which I doubt), consider that if you want 14" of lift, but don't know how to do it on an XJ, then you very likely have no business undertaking it. I would not consider myself a master or even a novice fabricator, but even I could figure out how to lift an XJ 14" and make it driveable given the bucks and time. I doubt you have a real need to ask your question at all...

I wheeled with a guy that had a super beater xj with random springs welded together... scary to say the least, but it did kind of get the job done. The thing never sees the street, and the body flexes more than the suspension. I wouldn't reccomend it.

Why do you want to keep the coil springs? Super-tall XJs usually run front leaves.

leaves are not my style i am am not a troll, just a enthused person the jeep will be getting an entire frame anolng with exo shell i thought abot leaves but they would not flex like i want the more i think about it the more i think about going smaller but i still have my eyes set on the prize i will keep everyone posted and be sure to keep up with the other thread insane xj build
