Michelin has the Ultimate Invention, Tweel!

Can't imagine this would be good for off-roading... I would think you would be constantly getting rocks, mud, snow, etc stuck in the spokes. Plus you obviously lose the benefit of changing your tire charcteristics with an air-down.

Has anyone seen this tire wheel hybrid creation in person? It is the ultimate reinvention of the wheel, but you cannot buy one yet.

They are also developing these for Heavy equipment use on Skid steers.

Should we start a petition to let Michelin know that the offroad community is interested?

P.S just so you know, other companies have been making tweels for years now, Michelin is just getting on the boat now, which I doubt they'll sell in a market like this because 99% of michelin's products are 30 to 50 % more than any other brand, and do not offer better tread life over there competition. I dreaded selling heavy equipment michelin's to my customers just for that reason, I know they would come back yelling at me when they spend hundreds more the michelin name and didn't get anything more out of the tires.

from my experience wheeled skid steers suck, they get stuck in mud and wood chips or even loose gravel, these look like individual tank treads, even if they were cheap as hell I would still only purchase a skid steer with tracks

not only a repost but its been out for over a year or 2.

to tell you the truth I almost did hurt myself typing that.

Hah, not trying to bust on you, it's just usually a team effort to do that... you knocked it out all in one post.

Has it been only a couple years?

Spike strip proof - Would be an interesting police chase to watch on TV.

Hehehe yup, can't shoot out the tires or throw spike strips and stop the car, guess that means they'll have to teach the PIT maneuver......so long as those officers are good enough to keep up with the guy running.

Airless tires! Wow! Brand new invention! Just like the NASA rover. Cutting edge: circa 1970.(that's Moon rover, not Mars rover, for you young pups!:D)

Talk about a waste of engineering. The biggest problem we have these days is tires are so reliable that people don't check the air pressure in them for 40K miles, then wonder why they went flat. I suppose if you could bling 'em up enough it would solve the flat tire issue for the huge rim/rubber band tire crowd.

They'd be real popular with the marketing department. Imagine: You have to pay for a new rim every time you buy a new tire! No up-selling involved!

I'll stick with the balloons for a while, thanks.
