max tire inside

Can anyone tell me what the largest tire (size) that can be mounted on the stock inside spare mounting bracket? I presently have the original (225, I think) mounted there, am going up in tire size, have posi, and will be buying 5 tires for th original rims. Thanks!

I´ve put 235X75R15's (AT) in there, but put a little bend in the mounting bolt, to get the tire to center up and the wing nut to tighten straight. Pretty much touched the seat back and the hatch, but worked for 14 plus years. The spare tire cover is a very tight fit with the 235's.

How far 'up in tire size' are you going? I had a BFG AT/ko 30x9.50 in the back holder before, and it's a tight fit, but it barely made it. Anything bigger is pretty much going to have to be deflated or laid on the floor.

Thanks for the replies. Right now I haven't decided just what tire size I'm going to, and am looking for some insight. I've just put on a 2inch BB, and am told that 30x9.5 would be fine, no rubbing, and that 31x10.5 would be ok as long as I don't flex it too much (19.5 inches hub to flare front, 20.5 rear). I'm leaing towards the 30inchers. What do you think?

That 2" BB is why I had the 30" tires - they fit just fine together and flexed well. The half-length add-a-leaf wasn't the greatest option, but I didn't know any better at the time.

I guess the self-appointed mods don't like seeing pics in here now or something so there's a pic of mine at the bottom of http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/jeeplift.html

Nice writup on the BB installation - it's almost exactly what I did two weeks ago on my '95 up country (took me a day and a half). Only differences: full-length AAL, OME shocks, used air on the strut compressors (so didn't disconnect the sway bar); didn't put on longer brake lines, and stripped both center pins...(yes, I used c-clamps). Good to know that the 30 inchers are a good match to the lift, and the spare will fit in the back. Anything I should look out for post lift?

Other than recommending you check the brake lines to make sure they're long enough I can't think of anything right yet...

Yeah, More money for a larger lift and larger tires. If you don't want it now don't worry you will. I have yet to find the cure for this condition.

Brake lines - I'll put them on the list...
...my 13 year old son has gone from "that looks cool" to "can it get taller?"

i have a 31x10.50 in the factory location on my '99
it doesn't sit in the indentation like the oem spare did... it sits on the floor with the factory bolt running through the lug holes... i had to make sure it was against the seat firmly so the hatch wouldn't catch it...

Re: max tire inside & 31's w/ BB

30x9.50 fits well in the back

I tried and 31x10.50's w/ Rusty's BB and rubbed badly-- damaged the tires. I had to switch to 30x9.50's. If you go w/ 31's, expect to cut the fenders.

Also, 31's seem to affect the shifting much more than 30's w/ stock gears.
