Map Sensor Vacuum Tube

The original elbow on the vacuum line (manifold to map sensor) was cracked so I replaced the elbow with one I found at the local auto parts store. Not sure if it was defective or garbage but the elbow lasted a month or so before falling apart. I temporarily replaced the entire line with 1/4" vacuum hose but the original hard line is much narrower than 1/4". Does this hard line just pull vacuum to the map sensor or is it metered air, ie do I need the same id as the original hard line?

It just pulls vacuum to the sensor. No metering, but the tube is intentionally on the small side to minimize the response time.
Note to self: change to hardline. :D
