Not on a XJ!

Everything ive ever owned with an engine had exhaust. Obviously louder, im not talking cutting it off at the headers, everything had some sort of mufler. Heres my problem, im going to college next year and need a good commuter. Hence a 4cyl car. Its a going to be a Toyota Celica.

I want to do some sort of exhaust mod to it, but, what can I do. I DO NOT want the bumble bee/weedwacker sound. That definatly isnt what I want. I know were not going to get smallblock chevy sound, but I need something. Is ti possible or should i just cut my losses and live with "stock"

Folgers Coffee can exhaust tip and a *Type "R"* sticker seem popular with the kids these days, so worth a shot? :D

Yeah, paint the brake calipers yellow.

Seriously, I'd consider the following:

1: The expensive method. Get something like Road and Track, not some kind of hiphop gangstacar fartbox magazine, and check out the ads for performance exhausts. There are probably people seriously racing Celicas somewhere.

2: The cheapskate method. Your Celica has a cat and may have more than one muffler. Simply eliminate the final one in the back. Skip the fancy pipes and extensions and coffee cans. You'll probably get better low-frequency noise from a piece of pipe.

3: Stay quiet. Save your money, or put it into mods that actually accomplish something such as increased speed, better handling or better economy.

There is something to be said for being a sleeper.

Sleeper was my idea, theres some good motor swaps for thgese cars (stock 2.2 for the 2.0 turbo)

Even the turbo doesnt put out that much (200hp) over the stock 145 in the N/a cars. Like said, I dont want rice cans, type r stickesr and the biggest wing I can find. I just want something a little different.

Its gonna suck going from a truck to a car. At least I can make this car go fastish.

What year celica?
Wait I just saw the turbo note. I only have experience with 7th gens...

I made my 4cyl Stratus have a low kind of growl to it with some cheapy muffler from Lordco. It's basically a straight pipe with little to no baffle. I removed the stock muffler and resinator and ran a pipe all the way to the back and mounted the muffler right at the end of the car. It actually doesnt sound ricey at all its got a nice low tone.

On my 2.5 4cyl XJ it took removing the cat, and putting one of those long skinny mufflers like a cherry bomb or something then added another cheapo parts store muffler at the bumper it made the once crappy sounding inline 4 sound pretty decent actually. Sound was deep and had a reallt cool low tone.

My guess would be like everyone else had said run as much pipe as possibe and throw a little muffler at the very end.

Uh oh! You removed the Cat? That is against the law. I bet you also remove the tags from your pillows? :D

Well, I see what the problem was.
The resinator was creating buildup in the pipe.
Just run hot water through it and it'll flush out ALL that resin.:greensmok:thumbup:
