i AM STARTING A PROJECT WITH A LS1/700R4 OR 4L60 ATLAS 4.3 AND FAB NINE AXELS... mY QUESTION IS TO ANY ONE WITH V8 IN XJ..WHAT DID YOU DO FOR COOLING...i WAS PLANING ON JUST USING A UNIVERSAL ALUMINUM 2 ROW, THE LARGEST THAT i COULD FIT BETWEEN THE HEAD LIGHTS.. DOES ANYBODY WITH EXPERIENCE ON THIS SUBJECT HAVE ANY POINTERS ON PICKING ONE...BRAND ?? SIZE???--THANKS

I would be inclined to believe that an XJ aluminum two row for a 4.0 would suffice. Due to the fact of the 4.0 being all cast iron and the LS1 being all aluminum. Seeing as aluminum dissipates heat better. But if someone disagrees please, let's here your input.

You don't need a rad with a setup like that...

que? Setup like what?

I would think that Igotanxj's suggestion is fine. To be honest, I think one of the quality all metal radiators w/3 row from CSF or rad barn would work fine. If anything my stroker runs a bit too cool at times.

LOUD NOISES!!!!! :D You might try searching for a guy named John(not sure of his username) that has an LS1 in his rig.

edit: 96 Classic is his username!

I presume you mean Blue95xj's suggestion?

The only reason I mentioned the 2 row AL is because I heard some issues have arisen in a thread in mod tech saying that the 3 row CSF/Radiator barns were popping trans cooler lines. They were also saying that it just wasn't cooling enough due to too many rows.
But it sounds like you are running one. How long have you had it?

eh, my bizzy on the name, was too lazy to scroll back.

I am not running any tranny fluid through mine so no problems. I have an external cooler instead. It seems to cool fine other than that. It stood up to its first 100deg carolina summer well, and without a fan clutch for most of it. Without an electric for the rest, as long as I was moving it stayed cool.

Had the radiator in for the same amount of time as the motor, so call it around 15k miles.

granted, mine was a "Heatbuster" series from advance auto, but it still came in a CSF bo so I assume it is the same. Since then my buddy has bought one and so has his dad.

If I had the coin for an aluminum one at the time I would have probably gone that route.

Hey no biggie.

Thats good info I think I know which route to go.

It also sounds that this would most definitely suffice for the OP.

I'd run the stock radiator and see if it overheats. If it does, try mounting a large oil cooler to help cool the engine. Oil temp plays a more critical role in your vehicles health then coolant

i got a L98 CHEVY 350 in my 89. I have a ron davis radiator that i recommend. I was running a stock jeep rad it didnt overheat. But with the new ron davis rad it runs almost till the point where the thermostat doesnt open.
