Since putting on my RE 5.5 kit I have had a little problem.... Seems the inner TRE wants to smack right into the passengerside swaybar mount when the QD link is installed and the wheel is cut for a right turn. For a temp fix so I could get to work (right down the street & slow speeds) I reverse tapered the hole in the drag link (now a cross section view of it would look like an hour glass) so I could mount thr inner TRE to the front of it. Like I said this was only meant to be temoprary, but it is holding well and there is no binding anywhere.
So what can I do to fix this? I know I can get some new swaybar mounts and weld em on the axle, but since I tapered out the drag link it's gonna have to be replaceded anyway. Who makes a good steering conversion?
I don't want to do an over the knuckle b/c then I'll have to move the tracbar as well and I haven't seen a decent/cheap way to do that. Plus my wheels have 4.75 BS and I really don't like the idea of grinding down TREs....
I'd like to not have to grind down the tracbar mount. I'd prefer to not have to grind anything down, but a lot of the setups I have seen seem to have problems with the tierod hitting something somewhere b/c it is too close to the axle.
Was thinking about a rustys setup, but a lot of you seem to complain about it. What are your problems with it? (Other than Rustys can be questionable about shipping).
I was thinking about the "bulletproof" setup from PU but I can't seem to find anyone with pics of it.
The currie setup looks beefy (& $$$) but I'd still have to grind down the sway bar mounts & move em up.
I was thinking about making a setup with stuff from MORE, but I have heard the Heim joint need to be lubed constantly and again the straight tie rod I'd make might hit the tracbar mount....
Are there any systems I have left out?
I know I could move the sway mounts up and just use the stock stuff, but like I said I'll have to replace the stock drag link anyway and I'm sure the stock stuff will give me some interesting geometry at this height...
