Lock Out Hub conversion

What would be recommended for converting my '98 XJ Classic to a lock out hub set up? I do most driving on the road so I don't need a locker differential. Any feedback would be appreciated....

If you do most of your driving on the road, go with the mile marker hub conversion. I assume your looking to get better mpg's with this conversion. Your not going to get back what you paid for the parts and labor for years to come. If you want offroad beef and a front locker this is the way to go but for day to day, change something in the intake or exhaust to help the engine breath better. This is a costly upgrade for mpg. Just my 2cents, Juice

Ok if I went with a front limited slip or something like that would you have recommendations. Also would my from stock spoke aluminum spoke wheels still fit over the hub?

This entire thread belongs on the Modified forum. If you search there, you'll find previous discussions (recent) on both the Mile Marker and Warn hub conversions.

No the stock alloys will not fit over the hubs!

There are two from which to choose-

Would not be quite fair not to mention the Warn kit is out there too. I happen to prefer that choice for one main reason- it's design replaces that weak composite rotor with a full cast 90's vintage Wrangler unit. It increases front braking capacity just a bit...also more resistent to warping. It does require a slight increase in the hub opening diameter, but they are readily available. No big deal. The kit was the typical great Warn quality and support too- Has been the best mod i've done on my '98.

I do know Clemson 4Wheel in Clemson SC has these kits with free shipping and have the modified rotors sitting on the shelf to ship with. Easy-

the conversion costs between $600-$900.i don't think it's worth it.just my opinion....NAXJA #579.

I will tell you this-

Yes, the kit was pricey.... However, no. 1, did pick up some mpg. I saw a one to two per gal. No. 2, did replace the already-dry non greasable crappy axle joints with end greasable joints that i am sure will last the life of the vehicle. No. 3, the hub bearings are very HD and are servicable, although i seriously doubt they will ever need any attention. No. 4, I can tell if after having locked the hubs in for a 'needy' situation, that once i have hit the road, the steering wheel is heavier and the vehicle is noisier...until unlocked- draw from that what you will. And no. 5, already mentioned the more substantial rotors and related braking improvements.

Just my experiences.

OK,Money is just paper, with green ink....draw from that what you will.....
