3.5---4.5---5.5---6.0---8.0--???
there are many diff. views of lifts...but is there a standard in measurment?
the question??? how are you jeepers determining the measurment of your lift?
some ideas....some say the total of inches is between the center of your wheel to the lower rim of the rubber fender...minus the stk measurment of 17 inches. ex..23 inches -17 inches =5 inches of lift.
another idea...[front] total spring plus any spacers inches minus 12.5 stock spring...ex: 19 inches minus 12.5 =6.5 of lift.

rear...total distance beteen rear bump stop to axle minus stock inches of aprox. 3 inches. also, remember lift should not include any tire lift, thats axle lift only.

let's here your opinion!!! the reason i'm asking is the 4x4 shops dont even have a consistent way of measurment.

From center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender flare.
I think stock measurements are 17.5 inches front, 17 inches rear

I like to measure the actual lenght of the coil spring for the front and the top of the axle to the frame for the rear. With that you'll get the most acurate measurement. You can also find out if your sagging if your still at OEM hieght. Go find your nearest newest XJ and take some measurements. :)

In short, the second way is the best. Man, I need to read these threads better.

By definition, the amount of lift is the difference between the height of a stock vehicle and the height yours rides at after installing all that expensive hardware. There is no "opinion" as to what lift is, the only thing open to discussion is how/where to measure.

The accepted standard for XJs is what Lucas posted -- center of wheel/axle to bottom edge of flare. The accepted "stock" height has been established by consensus as 17.5" front and 17.0" rear.

If you have removed or relocated your flares, then you'll have to find an alternate way to measure, and a stock XJ to compare with.

Last year someone had a formula based on the frame rail and tire size.I remember that I tried it and it was right on with the flare measurement!
