I'll find you some stats but...if we were to fully tap that area, there's enough oil there to last the US at its current consuption rate for 24 straight years....and 40 years of natural gas....

Anyone dismissive of the potential for new discoveries offshore in the Atlantic should google for the Brazilian discoveries made over the last ten years or so. They are extremely deep and probably not economically recoverable yet, but they are huge.

We should be going balls out on all forms of energy including fossil fuels.

As would I - it makes excellent strategic sense.

I'd still like to see prices get knocked down (dispand the OPECkers?) but if we use up all of their oil, they come to depend on us, and we suddenly switch to our own oil; perhaps this will bring oil prices down anyhow.
