Im looking for more mods for the Chero. My budget is around 500 bucks at this point. I just want to hear what you guys think i should buy.
Mods I already have:
Wheels
Front bumper
Aux lights
Head unit
Sub (Xj pod)
Tires(225 all terrains)

Some stuff im looking at:
HIDs
lift kit ( if i buy a BIG lift kit, i will have to buy new tires)
hitch(i have no rear recovery point)
Mud terrains
Under glows.... wait, that would look like hell.

ANY thing else?

Skid plates, sliders, rear bumper with recovery points. Most clubs wont let you out with them without front and rear points.

LSD equipped rear axle on top of the aforementioned armor and lift. They came factory on a lot of XJs. Might not be teriffic, but better than a peg leg. Your XJ might have one (mine does :)), so you'll be ahead of the game.

Is there any way to check this out, with out taking it into a mud pit and seeing if both of em spin?

spin one wheel (really hard) with it up on stands. If they both spin the same way then you have an LSD or a locker. If one spins opposite then you are either open, or you may have an LSD. It is going to come down to how worn the clutches are, and if you spin it hard enough. I believe that if you have an LSD there is a designation on the tag on the axle. I think It may be an "L" between the gear ratio, ie: 4L10, but I may be getting my jep stuff confused with my for 9" stuff.

Check the glove box for a sticker. All 97+ that I have seen with a LSD have had the sticker. JIM.

If I only had $500 to spend and I was trying to mod a XJ? I'd put it in my savings account and keep working at life until I could afford the hobby.............

Hey now, don't hate... Im just a highschool student trying to save MOST of my money for college. However you all know what this Jeep bug does to your bank accounts:wierd:

What do you have for recovery gear? Might be better to spend the money on things that will help you get unstuck first, instead of things that will help you get stuck :)

im in the same boat as i dont have much money and want to mod the xj. does anyone have any ideas for minor changes that are even just cosmetic or interior creature comforts that are cheap?

i was thinking about getting some cheap driving lights to put on the front bumper from autozone. anyone use cheap driving lights and have an opinion? im talking about the ones with the covers that say "baja" or something comparable

1) Make sure, all fluids in the vehicle are OK, brakes, hoses, air filter.
2) Go to the junk yard for some skid plates (engine, tranny, tank), a ZJ V8 tie rod, some ZJ V8 coils.
3) Buy some spacer and shakles for some more lift.
4) Buy a set of 31x10.5R15 MT tires, cut some sheet metal away and wheel!

Now you talking. :yelclap:

I have done that for many years and had fun. Now I am thinking of throwing some more money at it in the way of lockers (I installed an ECTED in the rear last year) and a winch and or bumpers.

This looks good, though I've yet to score skids from a JY. I'd make sure that you have two very solid recovery points (Front and Rear). Wheeling is fun until they rip your axle off trying to pull you out of mud :roflmao:

You don't necessarily need a big lift on your rig depending on your goals for it. Adventure-type rigs don't usually need a huge lift while mudders and crawlers might.

Buy some small things you can use as trail spares such as: u-joint(s), extra fluids, extra tools, axle shaft(s), brake lines.

You can save $ if you shop ebay/CL/NAXJA/JY. You might even be able to grab some tires along with all this and fall within $500.
