Kolak Performance Exhaust Systems

IT sounds like a good deal, looks like all high quality work, and the price sounds
reasonable for what you get.
i say do it

um, $1000 For exhaust is a bit much. That's not including header installation if you don't do it yourself.

They claim to have done all these tests and show no dyno results. I'm not saying they're lying, just that they're selling on "take my word for it" not "Hey look at these facts".

I have the cat, muffler and tail pipe from Nick (Kolak) and I like them a lot. This summer/fall I will be putting a new downpipe on with a Clifford header, so I'm not getting the full gains from what I have yet.

Your best bet is to talk to Nick, email him at [email protected] and ask him anything you want, he's totally Jeep and seems to really know his stuff. I don't think his prices are the best on the net, but the knowledge and service are great. He also hangs out on the JU JeepSpeed forum, he drives hopped up Grand Cherokees IIRC.

I think the Thorley header is among the top 3 or 4 headers for performance, it has MUCH longer primaries than the Borla, Banks and any number of others. Clifford seems to be the best, Pacesetter has a good design but I've heard horrors about the quality. Thorley doesn't have quite the length in the primaries that Clifford has, but it's still OK. The Kolak tailpipe is very solid and is the aluminized steel, mandrel bent. It's a nice, high quality piece of heavy guage steel. I can get pics if you want.

EDIT: I just looked at the site, his prices are outrageous. Email Nick and buy directly from him, I think I spent about $240 after shipping for my cat, Flowmaster and tailpipe after shipping. Still not the cheapest, but I have no regrets after thousands of miles.

Those Kolak prices are way too high in my opinion. Especially since its being shipped from Arizona and SeanW727 is in Jersey. Then add on the installation...too much money. A guy I know here bought Clifford headers, a high flow Cat and muffler (Flowmaster 70 IIRC) and then had a new 2.75" exhaust system built from scratch at our local customs shop. Not counting the cost of headers, cat and muffler, he paid $300 Canadian for the custom bending, welding and installation of the whole shebang. When my manifold finally shears in half, I think that's the route I'll go too...

My advice is to shop around your local guys telling them what you want, and see if you can get a better deal...

Thanks for all of the replies, i'm looking for some sort of full exhaust setup for my rig.
its a 99xj Sport/Classic i believe (maybe an SE) has the 3.07 Gears w/ a 5-speed manual tranny, 4.0l engine, i was originally thinking dual exhaust just for the bragging rights like hey look everyone i have dual exhaust. But the only headers that have that are clifford i beleive, and i heard that dual exhaust doesn't yeild the best performance gains.

My main priority is sound over performance as long as it performs better than stock.

My price cap is $1000 shipped and installed so if itmeant installing myself then so be it.

What do you guys recommend for sound, what for performance, etc.

Thanks for the input!
Sean

I paid 300 for a header
100 for flowmaster
55 for a cat

Installed the header myself and paid 180 for the custom bending, fitting, installation, adapting oxy sensor etc.

I went with a custom 3" system, and sounds very very sweet, but the downfall is resonance in the cab, so it's really a bit too much. You could easily piece together a system for waaaaay less than 1000. Instead of looking for a package (apparently they want to bend you over to deliver the package) see what you can piece together yourself, and spend the $400 you save on something worth while, like a locker, or if you're just looking to get screwed, a hooker.
