Anyway, the moral of the story is: Don't try to sidehill on the front lawn below yesterday's high water mark...and keep those tow straps handy.

I was stuck bigtime, and every time the ol lady fidgeted or even breathed hard (and believe me she was...) the Jeep would sink another 3-6" :D and that pond is pretty deep.

I really did think I was gonna lose them both :(

Glad everybody is safe.

That being said..... I cracked up when I saw those pictures. That is the "good" side of the front end to sink. Well done Woody. :D

Probably did it just for the cool pics. ;)

C'mon Glenn, I highly doubt it, what kind of person do you think Woody is? I'm sure he planned it all out just to freak the wife out!

Airbag Deployment

Really it was an accident... we just got home from a (non wheeling) weekend camping in Uwharrie NF... Jeep was loaded with dry(!) camping gear...hadn't even got up to the house yet, and "we" decided to take a "ride by the pond one time" and gravity did the rest...

This was March 03 (pre-locker days, not that I think they would have helped any) and the XJ stayed running throughout the entire ordeal. Glenn is right...it sunk on the proper side.

I really did think it was gonna sink...why I stopped for pix :dunno: just a fun-loving idiot I suppose. Daughter Mandy got Karen's Civic down there ASAP (heard her momma Mooin like a mounted cow) and we strapped it backwards & out.

New meaning to the saying 'don't try this at home...'

I was lookin at those pics, noticed my old tires, and was thinking...there's no way that just happened. I saw those tires give their lives at Tellico back in July :D I was really confused.....

BTW, if anyone wants to make sure their old swampers get a proper Swamper death, pass them on to woody. He'll make sure they're good and dead no matter how you look at 'em :D

Are you telling me a honda pulled you out. A ricer?? too funny!:D

.....took time to shoot photo's instead of help the wife out of the Jeep? I smell something...........;)

Woody,
I feel your pain-------
This Sept. after hurrican Isabell went thru we had 5" or rain and many trees went down.My father (who is 80 yrs old) took the Wheel Horse and the trailer loaded with tree limbs and trash down to the river bottom behind his house. This land was under 3' of water for several days and was VERY wet.He got tractor STUCK.
I let things dry out for 2 more days, put the MT,s on and rounded up the tow straps and we went to pull it out with the XJ.Before commiting to the river bottom I stopped and tried to back up the access road, all was ok.We started the tractor attached the tow strap and I leaned into it ,tractor rolled under its, own power and came out.Didnt even get the XJ dirty or need to hook up strap to it.
So -put things away and started to back out&up the road, locker made it slide to the down hill side and toward a tree.Figgered that if tractor came out I could go in to strighten up and get run up the hill. WRONG went in 5" in the mud and started to slide toward the river.
After 3hrs and the neighbors 4wd tractor and about 50' of cable we got it out.Had to use front reciever and highLift to pull the front up hill to keep it from sliding into the river.
The rutts are still there after two months.
