I signed out of the Army today. I start 20 days Permissive Temporary Duty (P-TDY) and then 63 days leave to take me to my retirement on 31 July 03.
Now I gotta find a real job.

Ha the retirement don't pay the bills. Gotta get a full time job. We'll be staying here in San Antonio at least until the girls graduate from high school, then, who knows. If I get the job I really want, we may be here for a long time, if not, we may move back to New Mexico.

Do a serch for government jobs, you wouldn't believe how many federal jobs are out there. Then at least you can choose where you want to live.

Fantastic, It's always good to hear about someone reaching retirement. Had two here today, an O6 and an E7.

permissive TDY LOL is that like 'goof off with pay & benefits?' or do ya actually have to go somewhere & do something constructive/skill related/finish up a degree etc...

then terminal leave...they always told us the Army has ya up to 48 hours after ETS...so if you've got some one on the skinnin list...skin em 72 hrs after you are 100% through.

I'm proud of ya for hanging in there...and as others have said, thanks for your service to the USA.

An idea...I dunno how much tolerance you have for 'watchmaker' type wrenchin/techin, but IIRC surgical/optical eq. repair techs used to make a pile.

Ya, I've been watching the fed jobs, but they really are not as easy to get as you think here in San Antonio. I've been working with a GS-11 (same job I was doing) and he is planning to retire later this year. Once that opens I'll jump on it. The LTC already told me he wants me for the job.
Woody - the P-TDY is time for job hunting and stuff like that. So ya, it is sham time, I don't report to anyone.

That's great John! Thanks for serving our country. I know there are many sacrifices involved to put that much time in the military.

Before you know it I'll be there too. Though, if I can stay in my current job Ill gladly go over 20. Tip: civilians don't normally do PT or drill, so go easy on them.
